I'm not sure about this. Is it the best use of the adult lung? Are there additional problems because it's adult/child??

I wish I knew more but I am certain there must have been a substantial medical reason for the age limit to start with.

Her Doctor said an adult lung would be fine in his patient. The age limit is an arbitrary bureaucratic directive to simplify paperwork.

Sorta, maybe but not really. The age limit was put in because "we have to draw the line somewhere." Bureaucrats like firm lines and arbitrary rules.

And while a lung from say, Shaquille O'Neal, would probably not fit into a newborn when the child is older then there is less problem. Especially if it is from a smaller adult.

As I heard it, there were so few cases under 12 years of age that they didn't matter statistically and therefore were just left out of the program.

From what I can determine there is a medical reason/risk that adult lungs are not suitable for children. Regardless of statistics, the physician should determine risk and make the call.

If the age to receive an adult lung is 12, and the child is 11 1/2, even 10, this is a medical decision best left to doctors - not bureaucrats.

There are too many variables for arbitrary age limits.

“Is it the best use of the adult lung?”

The Messiah couldn’t handle the heat and said make it go away; that’s the long story made short.
