HOUSTON (AP) - Southern Baptist Convention leaders have proposed a resolution expressing their opposition to the Boy Scouts of America's new policy allowing gay Scouts.
The resolution also calls on the Boy Scouts to remove from executive and board leadership the individuals who earlier sought to allow gays as both members and leaders without consulting the many religious groups that sponsor Scout troops.
While the resolution does not recommend that Southern Baptists drop ties with the Scouts, it expresses support for those churches and families that decide to do so.
It also encourages churches and families who choose to remain with the Scouts to work toward the reversal of the new membership policy.
Delegates to the annual meeting of the nation's largest Protestant denomination will vote on the resolution on Wednesday in Houston.

“If the Southern Baptist Convention endorses individuals and Churches that remain part of the BSA, then the Southern Baptists are endorsing homosexual behavior.”
I so agree! If any of their churches have the BSA in them then they are doing just that!!!
Well, at a minimum it would get the trains to run on time!
Exactly! I never thought that I would live to see the da when my church would be having this conversation. God has to be so sad.
The "Bishops" of the BSA are saying that homosexuality is going to happen. In this case the apparently impregnable "Bishops" are the problem.
“That is the problem, they should be able to tell them.”
Baptist churches are all independent. The SBC exists to combine resources for seminaries and missionary work. If they tried to claim authority to demand anything, all member congregations would leave.
flda already practice polygamy, the law means nothing to them.
Mainstream mormons have polygamy now, it is called celestial marriage.
Mainstream mormons have along term strategy on this issue.
Hilarious.
Isaiah 10
Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
Romans 28
For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
That didn’t take long, now did it?
What does this article have to do with Catholics? ;)
“That is the problem, they should be able to tell them.”
That dog would not hunt.
Although we are much more independent than your church it is impossible to place people in the SB Convention who would railroad change which is not wanted.
This fight is not over from what I can see. It is possible that some churches are going to be working to overturn the board and the policy in the future.
I had hopes for the churches. Not so much now. Bunch of sinners working aginst the teachings of the church. Make a clean split with the scouts and be done with it.
It didn't initially. Post #3 stated that a) the SBC was "caving", b) and then added "like the Mormons", inviting comparisons between religious organizations.
My #12, in response, pointed out how the different ecclesial structures operate, and then I invited comparisons as to how each group (SBC, LDS, and RC) have behaved predictably (or not) in the political theater.
Within three minutes of my post #12, the poster of #3 responded to post #10 that c) the SBC "should be able to tell them what to do", using the example of her own Catholic bishop's authority to illustrate.
That's how Catholicism entered into it, as far as I can tell. FWIW, I see nothing wrong with a poster of one religious persuasion posting news or information about people in another religious persuasion. How about you?
“Make a clean split with the scouts and be done with it.”
That is what I say! None of this so called “talk”, just say “it over, good bye nice knowing you”.
“What does this article have to do with Catholics? ;)”
I was merely stating that in our church the if the Bishop said no scouts in the parishes then there will be none. End of story. It should be the same with the Southern Baptists, but apparently it is not the case for what ever reason. So the “main church” can say “no scouts” but the individual churches may still have them if they choose. I don’t understand because I am not Southern Baptist, but then again...I won’t have boi scouts in my parish. :)
agreed but then again when they have the ruling elitist class in DC who do this type of thing at their cocktail parties then I ma not surprised at how much the homostapo goes after groups which have values, morals and a sense of hard work
Still no mention of Catholicism until you posted.
You wouldn’t happen to have an.. Agenda? now would you?
The topic of this thread is the SBC. Perhaps you should discuss them.
LOL
The fight is over. BSA has succumbed to the Cultural Marxists who also now are residing in the corporate offices of the Fortune 500. This issue has been thoroughly discussed on FR for ~3 weeks since the 5/23/2013 vote. Time to get on board with creating a new Scouting movement for male youth in the U.S. with http://www.onmyhonor.net/
I absolutely approve of competing Scout organizations.
