Presiding over the case is Debra S. Nelson, described by defense attorneys and others as a no-nonsense jurist.

"She doesn't play games," Orlando criminal defense attorney Luis F. Calderon told Yahoo News. "She doesn't come across as mean, but she’s pretty firm in her rulings." ...

Nelson ... has been on the bench for 14 years, having been appointed by then-Gov. Jeb Bush in 1999 ...

“having been appointed by then-Gov. Jeb Bush in 1999”

Well that’s slightly reassuring.........I guess.

She's been overruled once on a matter very damaging to Zimmerman.Sounds like she has her marching orders from Tawana Brawley’s best friend.Beware of “white interlopers” indeed!

It wouldn't be going to trial if the preordained verdict hadn't already been determined.

I’m afraid that “She doesn’t play games” means that she has already found him guilty, and now just has to rule the proceedings in such a way that his lawyers aren’t allowed to defend him with any inconvenient evidence.

That’s what it sounded like to me, too.

Otherwise, why would Big Media take any respectful interest in her?

That’s because the Judge is the Conductor on this Railroad.

judge Ito comes to mind....all the media said he was fair, and firm, and would control the courtroom...instead, Simpson's trial was a circus...

allowing the cops to be on trial and not the dirty scumbag Simpson....

Blame Zimmerman's lawyers for that one. They had the opportunity for a pre-trial "stand your ground" hearing that could have prevented this from ever getting to trial, and they waived it.

[”She doesn’t play games,” ]

High crimes (such as blackmailing judges, or bribing them is really serious business. Cash talks, gamers walk.)

If one wants to know who controls the Judge, then one only has to find out WHO can remove the Judge from the bench.

So far in this case, she's made one “even-handed” ruling that's been struck down by an appellate court.

I agree with you about the SYG, but I also believe Nelson would never have given it anything close to a fair hearing. She’s worked very hard to stack the deck against George Zimmerman since she was appointed to the case.

She’s as bad as the guy before her.

“Once she has it set in her mind and on her calendar, then it better be done by that day,” Calderon said.

Except for the prosecution, right??? They are permitted to slow roll and conceal evidence on her railroad.

Its not really a stand your ground case if the facts are accurate. Stand your ground only says you don’t have a duty to retreat first.

Zimmerman was attacked and the guy was sitting on his chest trying to kill him. Now if Zimmerman had shot him on the approach stand your ground might have been applicable.

Here on the west coast of Florida I doubt this would have gone to trial.

And she nullified that one by refusing to give the Defense a chance to exercise their right to a deposition of Crump the Mouth.
