Schools in the state of California will soon be required to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms of their preference.
A bill being discussed in the state senate would mandate that schools have bathrooms and locker rooms that are fully equipped for transgender students, as well as requiring the schools to allow transgender students to take part in sports and other activities of the gender of their choosing.
Assembly Bill 1266 is aimed at prohibiting discrimination against transgender students in the states school districts, Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco), the bills sponsor, told The Christian Post.
The bill, which the state assembly passed last month, is expected to pass in the Democratic state senate and be signed into law by Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown.
Supporters of the bill believe that it will help end discrimination against transgender students.
Its about ensuring transgender students, just like all students, have a fair chance to be themselves and succeed at school, Melissa Goodman, a senior staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, told the Los Angeles Times.
Among those opposing the legislation is the California Catholic Conference, who said that the bill is extraneous because laws preventing discrimination against transgender students are already in place in California.
Our legislature tends to get involved in things that are better handled in local school districts, said Carol Hogan, a spokeswoman for the conference, told the Los Angeles Times. One size does not fit all.
Similar policies are already in place in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Last year, Massachusetts passed similar legislation, making it the first state in the country to mandate nondiscrimination policies in school based on gender identity. On Tuesday schools in Multinomah County, Oregon were also required to begin using gender-neutral bathrooms.
That's taxpayer money well spent by a broke state in order to keep us from feeling too out of place until we decide what we want to be!
This may come as a shock to that state, but there are only two sexes. Look it up.
Lottsa fun for the boys in the girls bathroom now.
Society continues it’s downward spiral.
Sounds like a lot more girlie boys are just going to get the cr*p beat out of them in gym class and on the sports arena.
Yes, and the boys can take the girls’ gym classes! Think how much better they will be at most of the sports! That will be good for their self-esteems, right? Isn’t that the goal of education? (/s)
God help the kids.
Not in California. There area at least 15 or 16 there.
They had better triple the size of the girls shower room.
Regards,
They can label the three different restrooms and showers:
MALE
FEMALE
CONVERTIBLE
Oh, no, let’s not have special schools to handle students who do not fit the standard description; every school should have the ability to host any disability..
4.3 billion dollars later, this disaster continues. And just as was declared at the time, as soon as accommodation starts taking place in schools, it will never end. And guess what? It will never end until the people say no mas.
Like in Maryland CA Republicans cant stop bills or pass them but they should make sure that this bill requires urinals in ladies rooms.
That should wake up the compassionate CA lib ladies.
Why just schools? How about all public places, businesses, homes, ?
I think the headline is misleading. It implies there will be “separate but equal” facilities for trans. But the article says they can use the facility of their choosing. In which case why separate girls’ gym and sports from boys’? (We know why). Next will they demand trannies in the NFL or Olympics? It’s only “fair.”
Kommiefornia's been a sewer for a long time.
Here in MA schools if one of these freaks “feels” like being a girl for a day, “it” is allowed to use the girls bathroom and any normal girl who complains will be punished.
If you live in CA or Illinois, you need to get the hell out.
I stated this a couple weeks ago lol!
can someone tell me the difference between a “trans-gendered” person and a transvestite?
next up...
