Two prominent civil rights groups have filed a lawsuit against the National Security Agency over its program that reportedly collects the telephone records of millions of American customers of Verizon.
The American Civil Liberties Union and the New York Civil Liberties Union say in a lawsuit filed in federal court Tuesday that the program violates First Amendment rights of free speech and association. It also alleges the program violates Fourth Amendment rights to privacy.
The lawsuit additionally alleges the government's program exceeds Congress' authority.

my idea, is to not spy on innocent people, why should I call my mother and she tells me she is going to the bathroom lets saying her bed because she is old or my daughter is having her first time on the period or what ever conversation with someone.
You don’t; spy and if you think we should then do you suggest we rip up the 4th amendment, any other amendments youdo not like , maybe the 2nd for the left, freedom of religion for the queers, freedom of speech so we can have a enemy list
just call them the ‘ruling clique’ ~ these guys may not be up to ‘regime’ status. obama has appointed the stupidest bunch of people ever seen to the appointive federal agencies.
.
.
- Far left democrat Bob Beckel on FNC’s “THE FIVE” says what the NSA is doing ia unconstitutional -
.
.
so stupid they are doing what they want while millions let them, hell even France has showed more balls over homosexuals than we have .
Turkey Egypt too.
Curious but do you work for the feds?
those phone call records don't belong to you anyway. the law has been well settled for a century ~ they belong to the telephone company.
Indeed, long live freedom!
please tell me that you do not believe that.
They also said they were not getting info but now thanks to this guy we found out they were lying.
Again we have a 4th amendment do you think we should ignore it because it suits your view to spy in people?
>>He’s an idiot ~ the man is the stupidest person in history to serve as President.<<
He and his team were smart enough to get the IRS to target and cripple his enemies, thus stealing an election.
He and his team were smart enough to pass Obamacare, against the will of the American people.
He and his team were smart enough to take over the DOJ and turn it into what so far has been a bulletproof criminal enterprise.
He and his team were smart enough to wiretap the AP, James Rosen, and quite likely the United States Congress.
If you underestimate the intelligence and cunning of these people, then YOU, my friend, are the idiot.
I’ve seen some naive simpletons in my day, but you take the cake.
Here’s what the government has obtained, and MUCH MORE more (let your imagination run wild), with your complete approval:
A GUN REGISTRY
A list of all gun owners and everything they say, think, do and buy
A list of all weapons owned, how much ammo has been purchased, etc.
A list of all pro-lifers and everything they say, think, do and buy
A list of all conservative groups and all contacts, credit card info, etc.
A list of where all meet and when
A list of EVERY SINGLE COMMUNICATION between any of them,
all their financial transactions
all the websites they visit
everything they say on a conservative forum
everything about their kids
where they go
what they do
when their kids go to school and what time they get home from band practice...
EVERYTHING.
ETC ETC ETC INFINITY
Oh, you say it takes a SEARCH WARRANT to see all this??? HAHAHA Ok, sure. I’ll play along.
(We’ll pretend the last few weeks of IRS abuses weren’t exposed to us).
Who do you think APPOINTS the judges that approve the warrants?
It was a judge who authorized the AP surveillance of 20 phones and 100 journalists...for no good reason.
Think that won’t happen to the Tea Party, etc?
GET REAL my friend.
And by the way, we are one Supreme Court Justice away from outlawing the Fourth Amendment all together.
You truly think that little piece of paper will protect us from the greatest temptation to totalitarian power this world has ever known?
If so, you’re sure a trusting soul.
Just look at that little piece of paper called the Constitution if you believe that.

You realize the fact that this Big Brother database exists opens it up for potential abuse, right? It isn’t even a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.
I live here in the DC area. the federal government is a major employer in the area. I've written shelves of federal regulations and handbooks and designed more than 1000 forms.
there are probably no more than 2 dozen regulation or statute writers around DC at any one time. it's a tough job ~ with few lawyers doing that for a living. most of them don't have the native talent for that work.
the publishing industry has more than its fair share of homosexuals. when you work with USPS you have to work with many customer reps who are homosexual, or worse, Democrats, or even worse, active practicing nazis and members of the KKK
after awhile you become inured to such things ~ they are just part of the warp and woof of life. However, I'm not used to Obamugabe ~ the man and his crowd are beyond thuggish ~ they are actually stupid people who usually can't think more than a couple of steps ahead ~ terribly weak on planning, and no understanding of what people in this country really think.
i think you need to take a good look at the history and law behind what are called 'mail covers'. This current NSA issue is comparable to that. that way you'll understand what the members of Congress are saying ~ in their own terms.
Go to it ~ get those laws abolished. The companies won't create the records. Your privacy will be secure.
You might well ask what your phone bill will be if there are no longer any call records. I"d guess about $1000 a month.
you credit him with too much. at most the TEA Party thing affected groups in states that voted overwhelmingly REPUBLICAN!
sorry but I don’t trust obama and the Govt today
Rosen was wiretapped by the FBI. Obama and his cronies have no idea how that can be done.
They ORDERED it done. I’m not going to sit here and argue with someone who is as senseless and dense as you. Good night.
Dream on. the gub’mnt hasn’t got the slightest idea who owns how many guns ~ the people in this country don’t tell them everything.
