Exclusive: Inside Account of U.S. Eavesdropping on Americans [2008]
ABC News ^ | Oct. 9, 2008 | BRIAN ROSS

Faulk says he and others in his section of the NSA facility at Fort Gordon routinely shared salacious or tantalizing phone calls that had been intercepted, alerting office mates to certain time codes of "cuts" that were available on each operator's computer.

"Hey, check this out," Faulk says he would be told, "there's good phone sex or there's some pillow talk, pull up this call, it's really funny, go check it out. It would be some colonel making pillow talk and we would say, 'Wow, this was crazy'," Faulk told ABC News.

Faulk said he joined in to listen, and talk about it during breaks in Back Hall's "smoke pit," but ended up feeling badly about his actions.

Did you see the two interviews with Hong Kong lawyers last night
They both spoke English were both extremely knowledgable in international law ( particularly those seeking asylum and political refuge)

My understanding is unless they bring charges he’s free. If they bring charges. He’s close to embassy and can be tried in absentia. Would like either of these two in my corner

Friends who have lived there say its a very high tech place. He should be able to find work

During 9-11 the wsj NYC office was closed. Their HK branch took over and put the paper out. There are no doubt many other MSM that have branches there

“Did you see the two interviews with Hong Kong lawyers last night”

Missed that. Do you remember which program? I may have DVRed it.

“Although Hong Kong has an extradition treaty with the U.S., the document has some exceptions, including for crimes deemed political. Any negotiations about his possible handover will involve Beijing”

Beijing! That is troublesome.

Not to mention the fact that the Russians gift wrapped them for us. I find the notion of “security” laughable.

It is a rather overt grab for power, and nothing more.

No I didn’t. The first was late afternoon early evening. Second on maybe Greta. He dealt more with legal position. Guilty appeals etc

Individualism.

Liberty.

Party labels are meaningless.

I often wonder if I will see America return before I die. Hope I’m still intellectually intact and able to recognize it when it does.

Reminiscent of the ole party line telephone systems of the 50s and 60s.

Also, in Russia in the 70s. I'd heard about a ringing phone triggering the listening device but I didn't believe it until our phone rang. Very low tech and obvious but what did you expect from Russia.

Juan was on with Geraldo over the weekend. A sailor would have been embarrassed at the barrage that hit my screen. He's the reason I quit watching FOX for several years.

The biggest element to my mind is the Zero cannot tolerate anyone disagreeing with him.

Those techniques have surely been used in the past but as a last resort because of their risky nature. The Zero uses them with reckless abandon.

These conversations were from satellite and landline phones from people deployed to the Middle East. I’m going to assume that they were using government phones, because there isn’t a Sprint or Verizon store in Iraq yet.

When you use government communications equipment, you consent to monitoring. You usually have to to sign something to that effect, or there is a big sign saying so where the phones to call back home are.
