I like using Startpage as well. My concern has never been about sharing info as much as it relates to storing info. What they may be unwilling to share today may be compelled tomorrow through a variety of means. Anything stored on a server somewhere is free game and the volumes of info that could be compiled on almost anybody would stagger most people.
Been using it for 5 years now...
startpage.com
Just did. Was using Dogpile before but I like this better.
Just deleted Google from my favorites and added Startpage . Thanks for the heads up .
I tried FoxyProxy. Is Tor better than that and “HideMy@ss”?

I have no idea.
According to the leaked charts, the NSA also is tapped into the routers... which means it doesn’t matter what search engine we use, they still have it all captured.
I liked StartPage a lot. Then it got blocked by my employer a month or two ago as a “proxy service.” I found DuckDuckGo and use that at work now.
It can be captured; however, it uses “https” for very powerful encryption, so it can’t be read. Of course, the NSA is working on that decryption at Oak Ridge right now. They’ll be saving zillions of message in Utah until they get decryption working.
I just like making it hard for ‘em.
I’ve been using IX Quick as a search engine for a few years. It calls itself the world’s most private search engine.
I’m an old antique. I’m on dialup and connect via the phone line. Where’s my router located?
Your ISP is required to keep track of what you do. And their router is infested with plenty of nsamice.
thanks for the info. switching now.

Same thing but for the name?
I use Ixquick.
Startpage uses Google search without revealing any of your info.
Google is evil, whether or not they collect or give up info on me. I hate to give Google even a single click unless I absolutely can't find what I need on Ixquick. I rarely need to go to Startpage.
These days, you can't be sure of that.

There are routers at every hop on the Internet. If I do a traceroute from my computer to FreeRepublic, I see that I go through about 11 different routers as my packets leave Los Angeles and make their way up to the server.
