Over the past year and a half, the Department of Homeland Security has put forth solicitations for nearly 2 billion rounds of various ammunition over the next few years. Last Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to stop DHS from entering into new contracts for purchases of millions more rounds of ammunition until they provide reports to the Congress on the cost and need for ammunition.
“Given this large purchase, the American people and members of Congress rightfully had concerns and questions,” said Representative Mark Meadows (R-NC), who proposed an amendment to the DHS spending bill for 2014 that would require that they submit a report to Congress before following through with their plans to purchase 1.1 billion rounds of ammunition.
Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) said the amendment was unnecessary based on his talks with DHS officials. Carter said the department has since admitted that its ammunition needs are not as great as first reported, and said the department is pursuing a bulk purchase to keep the costs down.
The Meadows language passed late Wednesday night in a 234-192 vote.
In the U.S. Senate, Jim Inhofe (R-OK), introduced a measure called the AMMO (Ammunition Management for More Obtainability) Act. The Ammo Act would make the Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on what he believes is a strategic ammunition hoarding by the Obama administration.
Inhofe believes the Obama administration will do anything to push its gun control agenda and back in April, he told Laura Ingraham “We just denied everything that this president and the vice president are trying to do. So what are they going to do if they want to, if they want to violate our Second Amendment rights? Do it with ammo.”

As long as the Dems hold the Senate, this is utterly meaningless.

Members of Congress long ago figured out the best way to secure their place at the public trough was to talk a good game, be on camera as much as possible, and do nothing.
Congress has long ago vacated their responsibilities for keeping the executive branch in check.
Not if the House takes a position of “No money to be spent on ammo without explaining yourself”.
And then they’ll just pass another continuing resolution instead of a budget that doesn’t restrain the DHS or any other bureau going overboard. Just like the last few years.
Yeah, sufficient ammo to put three or four shots through the head of every single American citizen is probably enough at this point.
Here’s a possible solution:
Get shooters to boycott firms doing business with the government. The government cannot force firms to sell to them. This could happen incrementally: first boycott Remington and Federal for 6 months, then incrementally add the others.
In the mean time, pressure Congress to cut military costs.

The DHS will do it anyway, just like the IRS is still stonewalling tax-exempt status apps of conservatives, just like Lois Lerner still makes $180k/yr, just like Holder still has his job, just like Rice still got a promotion, just like Hillary will run for prez in 2016 even after Benghazi, just like.. Oh forget it. You get my point.

DHS sounds like my wife: “save” money by purchasing MORE than we need, so as to get a discount.

Given what we now know, what was previously tinfoil hat conspiracy stuff now seems like a proven conspiracy with gun control and arming of the DHS with the intent of using anti terror laws against dis armed political opposition by reclassifying them as domestic terrorists as the plan
They are buying them to use against the Tea Party and those who are aligned with them.
Janet’s got an ammo hoarding problem. We can certainly understand, with the difference being—we buy ours with our own money and we shot it, before she created the problem.
We are careening off the cliff and those in power aren't interested in braking. It is hard to comprehend how fast and furious we are speeding away from freedom.
