It kind of makes one wonder if 9/11 WASN’T planned by our govt just for this reason....
I mean, it’s kind of a koinkydink that 9/11 changed how we looked at things, how it changed and brought on new legislation that was created to give govt MORE control, etc. And who is to say the “conspiracy” that our govt create Bin Laden to begin with, isn’t true? (Robin Cook, Foreign Secretary in the UK from 1997–2001, and Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council from 2001–2003, believed the CIA had provided arms to the Arab Mujahideen, including Osama bin Laden, writing, “Bin Laden was, though, a product of a monumental miscalculation by western security agencies. Throughout the 80s he was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis to wage jihad against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan.)
After all, things that are called a conspiracy anymore...end up more and more like the truth.
Just sayin’.....
It may not have been called the NSA, but it was the logical start to its beginning. IMHO :^)
Well - when does (or how much) coincidence become conspiracy? DamnifIknow!
Now that I’ve had time to peruse, it’s a good job of putting the picture together. It does show how much contempt Bush et al. held for the Constitution. Still, I’d have started the story in the late 1940s with the OSS.
As I see it, there are at least two issues.
The congress apparently granted permission to surveil communications with regard to international communications. I do not know the particulars of what is legal and what is not.
the second but related issue is broadening the surveillance to include all calls. Associated with this issue is looking at communications of political enemies.
I have not been able to ascertain if the later actually ocurred.
The former has been underway forever I believe and the scope broadened as traffic increased and newer methods used. In the 70’s I feel sure all telex traffic was monitored and likely fax traffic as telex was abandoned. That is especially true for international traffic.
It is the latter, the going over the line that must be harshly punished. That punishment must be harshest at the very top, the president. There is no defense
