They ALL are in Philly!
The government doesn’t have the IT resources to do background checks on pothead crane operators.
That’s what I figured.
At GM, we’d have union guys and gals get dismissed for dealing on company property (pretty much never for possession or being under the influence).
And in a couple months they’d be back after completing a rehab stint.
And I’ll bet they were on paid leave too...
Obama wii probably promote him to all the shovel ready projects since
he is probably Union and can’t be fired.
He was hired in Philadelphia for one reason. Nuff said
A crane operator has to have split second reactions.
Which do they think was more responsible, the painkiller or the pot?
How much of either?
If he smoked marijuana and took the painkiller the night before last then what does it have to do with anything?
If he smoked the marijuana and took the painkiller in the last hour defiantly relevant.
Typically not, although some would get back pay eventually.
A lot depended on nepotism, cronyism, etc.
LOL

I recalled a report on flying and marijuana. Seems that numerous studies show that up to 24 hours later, pot impairs the ability to perform tasks. But depending on the pain meds - they probably had a greater effect.
The EEOC is really pushing hard on the "don't do background checks" thing.
They are just waiting to have a "test" case that they can take to court. Right now it's just a suggestion from the EEOC.
My company will still be doing background checks. Good mercy some people don't need a "break", some people need to be locked up and the key thrown away. (rme)
Not to mention the brain cells it kills over a period of time.
Wouldn’t you need an engineer present for this type of work? Just because you can operate a crane doesn’t mean you can safely bring down a building.
Only if he's in the union. Otherwise forget it.
Marijuana stays in the system for thirty days and will test positive.
Many construction workers are on pain meds because of previous injuries. He may have a prescription for back or leg pain.
“A crane operator has to have split second reactions.”
That’s why I suggest the pain killer was more of the problem. Pain killers are “downers,” and they can really slow down the reflexes. But pot could potentiate that effect. But when you’re prescribed a pain killer, the info always says, “Don’t drive or operate heavy machinery.”
Non union job! I am a heavy equiptment operator and have operated cranes as well it’s not a job to be messed up on!
It may have been his action that contributed to the collapse, but as a construction worker myself I think the supervision was wrong in it’s method of demolition. One witness mentioned them pulling out a piece of steel that was giving some support just before the collapse. However I have never seen a piece of steel use to shore up a 4 story wall on initial construction, unless they installed it as a safety device.
I for one can not understand the perimiter not being secure to other buildings and citizens in the area! Especially in close proximity.
