To encourage his demonic protégé, Screwtape explained to Wormwood, "It does not matter how small the sins are, provided that their cumulative effect is to edge the man away from the Light and out into the Nothing... Indeed, the safest road to Hell is the gradual one -- the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts."
With the Boy Scouts of America's (B.S.A.) decision to allow young gays into their ranks, another signpost warning against the sin of homosexuality has been removed.
In 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Boy Scouts had the Constitutional right to exclude gay members. This was because, as the Court concluded, opposition to homosexuality is part of the organization's "expressive message." Part of the Scout Oath states that Scouts will keep themselves "physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight." The majority opinion in the 2000 ruling noted that the Scouts "teach that homosexual conduct is not morally straight," and that it does "not want to promote homosexual conduct as a legitimate form of behavior."
In his dissent of the 2000 Supreme Court decision, Justice John Paul Stevens declared, "it is plain as the light of day that neither one of these principles -- 'morally straight' and 'clean' [a reference to the Scout Law] -- says the slightest thing about homosexuality." It seems that the Boy Scouts have now surrendered that "expressive message" and agree with such an abhorrent and morally ignorant conclusion.
As Al Mohler warned prior to the B.S.A. vote, surrendering this core conviction "is both a legal and moral disaster." For example, with their "expressive message" now compromised, how now can the Scouts argue legally to prevent the inclusion of homosexual leaders?

Scounts = toast.
And the sad part is that they pushed down the heat lever themselves.
However, the philosophy is there...and the old scouts can start new groups. The libs are soon going to have their very own set of survival troubles after CW-II starts anyway, so the scouts can successfully regroup after things settle down.
When your son comes home with a bleeding butt , don’t worry he’s just working on a new badge
Bingo!
HomObama is the honorary National Scoutmaster. Watch, very soon, for him to inject EVERY homo agenda item into the Scouts by his sodomite handlers.
A lot of deluded FReepers here are trying to hold the fort, thinking they can retain the scouting principles within this now sodomized organization. Expect them to pipe up directly.
Let’s hope not. It is a sad day.
When not mention to the fathers to go national and tell the hierarchy of the BSA to disband it immediately. It takes honor to disband it and they have to put some action behind their talk of honor; otherwise, they will appear to have been frauds to begin with. And then have a national event where all scouts are given a special badge of ‘living the honor’ at the closing down of the BSA.
Their only way to survive is to unincorporate, and come back as a new name, with new by-laws and constitution.
The problem is inherently in the “national” character of the organization.
They’re all looking at a more decentralized approach.
Harder for the left to attack.
The way I understand the rules, if a troop looses it’s chartering organization and dissolves all the assets of the troop go back to the local BSA Council. Many troops have thousands of $$ in cash, along with equipment such as trailers, tents, camping equipment and some own real estate. All of it reverts to the next higher scout organization.
Good idea.
Umm, no we aren’t required to take them in.
The very reason to close up shop all together and disburse the monies to each troop to be divided among it’s scouts - it was for them to begin with. And then auction off the equipment and donate the funds to the veterans.
Any parent that allows their son to remain 'in it' is abusing their own child.
It shows the judge is in the dark and has no light in him as his 'light of day' is dark and cannot see what is obvious.
That’s easily taken care of: Spend the money, or give it back, and sell off assets. Turn the org to $0 then close shop.
for most of us, the troop and maybe the next level up, and our collective skills and experiences in past Scouting, ARE “the whole way of life” especially for the young kids below High School
and at these levels, we are all volunteers
No troop for your kid? Start one.
Don’t like, fit in, or agree with troop your kid is in?
Start a new one
Don’t think the troop leader is a good role model? Start another troop (that’s how my Mom got one started)
Don’t like the new badges, handbooks or other printed materials provide by national organization? Dont use them, use the old ones, earn the old badges, they are always good
Don’t like the theme antics or participants of a conference workshop jamboree or camporee? Don’t go. There are lots of choices- especially those run by volunteers
People who don’t do GS might be surprised at how traditional are the troops. The Mommies and Daddies who complain that the girls do too much crafts and feel-good badges and not enough leadership and outdoor camping have failed to step up and just start a new troop
Personally as Mom of son too, I found for years the number of women as Boy Scout leaders to be a bit discouraging
when men bailed out of being Boy Scout leaders (and dads) that was the real start of the BS downslide, imho
Such as the "First AIDS" merit badge?
I really don’t see how they can. With this half-a-loaf, try-to-please-everyone decision of theirs how can they say that a homosexual can he a scout but not a leader without appearing hypocritical in the extreme? They’ve left themselves open to all sorts of new lawsuits on this one, and I doubt they’ll win them in the future. They’ve killed Scouting. It may take a while for the body to hit the floor but make no mistake. Scouting is dead because of this decision.
My troop has not received any funding whatsoever from BSA...We raised our monies thru fund raising to go on camp outs, and to long resident camps...We owe BSA nothing...The only thing we owe is to pay $15.00 per scout a year to be chartered...The camping equipment was either bought with troop money, or it was donated by a troop leader...we have had very few donations from any businesses..All donations that were provided went thru the council office, and we never saw a dime of that donation...if we are to close shop what monies we have left will go to a worthy organization where it not handed out to undeserving clients.
