When people accuse McDonalds of serving food that isnt nutritionally ideal, they can always point to their salad offerings. See, salads are healthy, and McDonalds serves salads: therefore, you can eat healthy at McDonalds, but if consumers choose to eat something else, thats cool, too. Ahhh . . . but when McDonalds started with the salads they gave a different rationale.
They offer salads so as to not be disqualified when a group of people go to eat together. It might be worth taking the hit on the salad if they sell a Big Mac, chicken select, a Quarter Pounder with cheese, and fries and drinks all around.
Similar rationale for restaurants that are open on Monday and Tuesday, even when they lose money. They have to be there on Monday or Tuesday or the customers who were disappointed won’t come back the rest of the week.
