I hate to say it, but to be fair to the voters, Christie should select a Democrat.

Funny you should say that because the fairness argument is exactly what the Rats used to illegally get sure-to-lose Bob "The Torch" Torricelli replaced on the ballot by Lousenberg.

Would a dim governor choose a republican?

Neither am I. He’s worse than Romney the way he’s been pal’in around with obama down the Jersey Shore. Christie is part of the reason we lost the election. In Tuesday’s primary, I’m voting straight down Column 3 - Tea Party all the way from now on and let the chipes fall where they may.

Okay, yeah, right.

He can switch parties, then nominate himself.

Which voters? The ones who elected a Republican to the office that is responsible for selecting Senate replacements?

Would a dim governor choose a republican?

Unlikely, but if a republican had held the seat, that wouldn't be fair to the voters.

I hope he selects a Democrat, state will go Dem anyway in 2014. But that will cancel his Repub ticket.

Watch for the “peaceful continuty” BS to start here and on the MSM.

A democrat would not fear such propaganda.

Christie should and must nominate a REAL republican not a RINO.

If the nominee pisses off mccain, it is a potential good choice.

To quote a dimwit, “elections have consequences”. I don’t care about fair anymore, I care about saving this country.

No. We are not a parliamentary system. We cannot assume that someone voting for a senator who happens to be a Dem or a Rep needs the successor to be from the same party, or even the same ideology.

Maybe not, but do you honestly think the voters of NJ, if given the opportunity to pick the replacement would now pick a Republican?

This is one reason I prefer the system Kansas has. Each Precinct in each county elects one male and one female of each party to be a precinct person. If an elected office opens up in the middle of a term, the elected precinct persons of the party who previously held that office select the replacement. There's no one individual who makes the choice (thus, not much likelihood of "buying" the position), the people get to keep the party they previously chose, and with so many individuals involved from different areas, you are more likely to get a selection that best reflects the "political flavor" of the voting public.

To hell with “fairness.”

Would you feel the same way if it were a Dem governor selecting someone to fill a position formerly held by a Republican?

To be fair, Christie should pick a Republican.

Was the previous guy a Republican and Loutenberg was placed into the position and not voted in? Or did the Dems somehow prevent having a Republican run against Loutenberg so that only a Dem could hold the office? If neither of those is true, then how is it fair to select a Republican when the people in NJ very clearly voted Dem?

That is a perverted thought. The voters voted for Christie a Republican. To be fair to the voter he has no choice but to select a Republican.

Steve Forbes would be a good choice.

Would 'fairness to the voters' influence any Rat governor you know of if a Republican senator passed away in office?

Probably not, but just because someone else does wrong, that justify you (or in this case Christie) doing wrong?

Why should he pick a Democrat??

Because the senator being replaced was a Democrat, and he had been elected by the people of NJ.

But if we’re going that route, I suggest he pick another 89 year old white democrat who’s got one foot in the grave (seems fair).

That's always an option :)

That way he’ll cause some trouble within the NJ Democrat establishment.

If he wants to do that he should appoint Torricelli
