TSA removes ‘nude scanners’ from airports

The “nude scanners” are gone.

The full-body scanners that used X-rays to create what looks like a nude image of passengers have been packed away and removed from airports across the country. The 250 or so machines were removed about two weeks ago, before the June 1 deadline set by Congress.

But privacy advocates aren’t satisfied, noting that the Transportation Security Administration is still using full-body scanners that employ a different technology. …

The TSA now relies solely on millimeter wave scanners, which previously generated similar nude images but have been upgraded to portray a generic figure on which they point out objects concealed on travelers’ bodies. …

Stunned they lasted this long. When I first saw one of the images of a shapely young lass I presumed the women of America were going to rise up and get these shut down within 48 hours.

They still have the high-frequency microwave scanners (look like round telephone booths with the sweeping scanner), which they allegedly set not to reveal body parts, but which are capable of doing so.

I think the reason they removed them is because the manufacturer has another incarnation of them that they are going to sell to the taxpayer.

i was less concerned about the graphic nature of the image as i am about safety if doctor says avoid exposure to radiation as much as possible?

and the frisking of course, that has to go for sure!

They are not gone yet! Went through one today in GSP, saw they are still in place and being used in DTW when I landed. Also being used last week in BOS as I passed there!
