Jean Stapleton, an actress whose portrayal of a slow-witted, big-hearted and submissive up to a point housewife on the groundbreaking series All in the Family made her, along with Mary Tyler Moore and Bea Arthur, one of the foremost women in television comedy in the 1970s, died Friday at her home in New York City. She was 90.

Thanks for that info. My dad was the huge Sanford & Son fan. I don’t recall any of us ever watching Maude. I’m sure if I watched some episodes of All in the Family now I’d see it differently now than I did as a kid. I don’t have the time or interest to re-watch the old shows, though. If most conservatives agree that it was a putdown/leftist propaganda tool, I won’t dispute it.

The article describes it.
“”the Bunker family, led by an irascible loading-dock worker named Archie whose attitudes toward anyone not exactly like him that is, white, male, conservative and rabidly patriotic were condescending, smug and demonstrably foolish.””

Oh, yeah, like we want to respect the memories of infamous man-hating/misogamist (family-hating) shows on television. Family and I stopped watching TV long ago. It became more common during the ‘90s and more insidious since.

"Lighten up Francis"
It's the hags and their SNAGs (sensitive New Age guys) who've needed to lighten up for several decades. Quite a bit of money and effort was spent on their hysterical efforts to scatter families and destroy the economy. Likewise, regarding their linguistic activism and effeminate insults used in lieu of arguments.

Tell you what. We’ll compromise with a wake, of sorts, in honor of the passing of each “progressive” (socialist) media effort, political activist and propagandist with beer and watering of flowers.

Yeah... Archie was to be portrayed as a numbskull conservative. But to be fair, Meathead the liberal was certainly a jackass himself.

Indeed. For all the lampooning Archie got, I have trouble believing anyone(including most liberals) watched that show and thought “Wow. I truly want to be like Meathead!”

Rest in Peace, Jean.
I met Carroll O’Connor at his restaurant in Beverly Hills. He had the most beautiful blue eyes I’ve ever seen. Gracious man, too.

Funny thing about “making Archie look like an idiot”.
Archie worked on the docks and kept four non employed A**holes $hitting.
Yes Sir Ree Bob, that made old Archie look like an idiot.

I remember the episode where Gloria told Edith not to let Archie tell her how to vote. Edith said she lets him think she’s voting his way and votes how she wants when she gets in the booth.

Friend, this thread is about a consummate actress and her passing. Speaking of insults whether meant or implied, stuff it....why don't you read what I posted concerning the show before you make a total ass of your self?

RIP Edith.
Thank-you for when you were struggling to deal with the “change of life.” It makes me deal what I have to deal with now that I have gone through the change.

I never met him but I do remember Alan Hale Jr. at his restaurant on La Cienega, he had striking blue eyes too!
What restaurant did Carrol O’Connor own?
I can’t recall it??

No, you got it right. Meathead began to look more ridiculous as the series unfolded and eventually he and Gloria divorced.

Tell you what. Well compromise with a wake, of sorts, in honor of the passing of each progressive (socialist) media effort, political activist and propagandist with beer and watering of flowers.Oh brother....the thread is about the actress, I have no idea what her politics were...do you?
She was no Jane Fonda that I know of, the show she is known for has been noted by me as well as my opinion of it.
Why do you want to drag this thread into the gutter?
