ROCKUMENTARY: JUNE 1, 1984

Where were you on Friday, June 1, 1984?

I was stumbling along at the bank on a payroll project that would end badly a year later. All around me, it was Morning in America.

Let’s cue the Rockumentary theme!

San Remo Golden Strings: “Festival Time”

This was still the era of duets, and this was one of the greats of the Eighties. It came in at #10 this week.

Julio Iglesias & Willie Nelson: “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before”

A new form of music, rap and hip-hop, was making its first appearance on the R&B charts. It was pure rhythm with no melody, and the lyrics were intended to be poetic. I never took to it. With it came the break dance phenomenon. Irene Cara had herself another hit, and this one came in at #9 this week.

Irene Cara: “Breakdance”
