A Washington Free Beacon investigation has identified at least five pro-Israel organizations that have been audited by the IRS in the wake of a coordinated campaign by White House-allied activist groups in 2009 and 2010.
These organizations, some of which are too afraid of government reprisals to speak publicly, say in interviews with the Free Beacon that they now believe the IRS actions may have been coordinated by the Obama administration.
Many of the charities openly clashed with the Obama administration’s policy of opposing Israeli settlement construction over the so-called “Green Line,” which marks the pre-1967 boundary between Israel and the West Bank and West and East Jerusalem.
After the Obama administration took up the Israeli-Palestinian peace process as one of its most prominent foreign policy priorities in early 2009, and made a cessation of Israeli settlement construction the cornerstone of its approach, the nonprofits were subjected to a string of unflattering media reports.
White House-allied lobbying groups joined the media criticism by challenged the nonprofits’ tax-exempt status, arguing that they undercut President Barack Obama’s Middle East policies.

How is it that all these “public minded” groups with alleged patriotic intentions run for the hills at the first hint of resistance from the IRS? That’s where the fight has to start if one is serious about fighting big, corrupt, gov’t etc. And you can’t fight big gov’t if you don’t get a tax exemption first? C’mon-—that’s just a lazyass cop-out. And by the way-—kindly don’t send me a fund raising letter if you aren’t ready to do battle with any appropriate federal agency. You can’t do hard business thru the mail-—face a bureaucrat in his office, put your foot on his chair, your elbow on your knee, and explain to him what it is you expect him to do. A little intimidation from the customer goes a long way toward minimizing the need for future visits. Been there done that , and it’s how I live my life-—Semper Fi.

Absolutely true. Its like these groups exist only to send out junk mail and cash checks (and pay salaries to their officers). If they can’t fight the bureaucracy over an application, then why do they even exist? They should have been sending up flags from Day One and not waiting to just jump on someone else’s bandwagon.
Although the actions of the IRS under the direction of the Lyin’ King is totally criminal and unconstitutional and MUST be addressed and punished, you are correct about these groups that are hindered from fighting back because they don’t have tax-exemption status.
When we give to FR, we do not get a tax write-off, but we give anyway because we believe in the cause.

Lowenthal Marcus said her group was told that its application for tax-exempt status needed to be reviewed in Washington, apparently because its message is contrary to the Obama administration’s stance on Israeli-Palestinian issues. She said they followed up after not hearing anything about the application for seven months.
She said an IRS agent told them, “If you’re an organization connected to Israel you need to have special scrutiny from the IRS and some of those groups will be sent to a special unit in Washington, D.C. to determine if your activities are in contradiction with those of this administration’s public policies. ... You can look at us and see if our activity is inappropriate. You cannot look at us and tell us that our thoughts or beliefs are inappropriate.”
The group has filed a lawsuit, arguing its treatment by the IRS was unconstitutional.
Unfortunately or maybe fortunately not everyone is willing to risk all for an idea. Such is the nature of man. Some more easily buckle to intimidation than others. I think those that are more courageous would agree that it is more effective to promote resolve in the face of tyranny rather than disparage the weaker among us.

Most corporations who end-up cross-wise with the federal government will immediately capitulate.
They full well recognize that, if the government chooses, their business can be destroyed. Without question, given today's regulatory state, the government has the power to do exactly that.
The big difference now is that the Obama administration has made it quite clear that they are willing to use that power.
