FBI Ran Pedophile Ring to Nab Pedophiles

As late as last year, the FBI ran a child pornography operation in an attempt to nab its customers.  The service ran for two weeks "while attempting to identify more than 5,000 customers, according to agent's statements to the court."

Court records indicate the site continued to distribute child pornography online while under FBI control; the Seattle-based special agent, a specialist in online crimes against children, detailed the investigation earlier this month in a statement to the court.

The methods used in the child pornography ring depart from traditional investigations, "historically, child pornography investigations stem from tips made to law enforcement, interactions with undercover officers posing as customers or reviews of documentation seized during searches of child porn clearinghouses like the one recently raided in Nebraska."

The Bureau seized a website on November 16, 2012.  It operated until it was shut down on December 2 and at the time, it had more than 5,600 users and 24,000 posts. "At least 10,000 photos of children being posed nude, raped or otherwise abused were broadcast through the site."

Discussions ranged from how to avoid detection by police and "how to lure a child in my car."  Agents were unable to identify users through the service records, so the site was allowed to continue in order to gain more information about the patrons.

Using already existing porn to trap users is very close to the line, but one that I can deal with from an ethical standpoint.

???????? What they did was EVIL.

Could you deal with it, ethically, if the pictures the FBI handed out included photographs of your infant son or daughter being raped?

This should surprise exactly no one considering that so many freepers are 100 percent on board with ‘lesser evils’ as a path to political victory. People have screaming fits when called on it but the facts speak clearly.

This insanity is the result of ‘lesser evil’ being made acceptable and many are so far gone down the path they are desensitized to just how evil this was.

Every time I think my government can of shock me more, I am shocked again. Our FBI distributing child pornography? Mind-boggling.

And I believe He should. I don’t want pedophiles around, but that doesn’t mean I want our government to become one to get them.

My main concern would be whether the FBI transmitted pictures to lure pedophiles.

"Court records indicate the site continued to distribute child pornography online while under FBI control..."

Anyone know if the FBI was any better at running this pedophile sting than Treasury was at running the Mustang Ranch Brothel in Nevada? The bumbling bozos at Treasury lost money trying to run the “oldest profession”. Here: http://theplaintruth.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3315092.

That doesn’t mean that it came from the FBI.

Fine and dandy.

So, where did the images come from?

The agents involved need to be hauled before Congress either to divulge the answer or damn the USG by taking the Fifth.

It would have come from, the pedophile ring. Unfortunately the only way to get these sick biastards is to allow some uploading and downloading so IP addresses can be traced.

Not with much joy, but if it helped catch those who did it or others like them and therefore prevented other children from being abused, I could deal with it.

YMMV

What was evil? Recording the molesting of children for pleasure and profit? Or using those recordings to catch people before they could hurt more children?

What they did was EVIL.

What the people who created the pics did was evil. The FBI allowed pics (that were already created and likely floating around the net) to be transmitted in an effort to get the pedophiles. I have no problem with that, as long as they get the pedophiles.

I would also contend that using those recordings for pleasure or profit is in itself evil, though I suspect a strong libertarian would have a difficult time showing why. After all, the actual damage to the children has already been done. Looking at the pics for perverse pleasure does not of itself cause more harm to another person.

Which is one of the reasons I’m not a full-blown libertarian. Some actions are just evil in themselves, even if they do not directly harm someone else.

Using the recordings to prevent others from harming more children is about as non-evil as I can imagine something being.

Now abusing children to get new recordings to trap child molesters would be utterly evil, regardless of the ultimate intent of the action. But I sincerely believe the FBI would never even consider doing such things.

What was evil?

All of it. Who said anyone was caught? Who said more children weren't hurt because these photos/videos provided stimulation for a pedophile.

From the article: Discussions ranged from how to avoid detection by police and "how to lure a child in my car." Agents were unable to identify users through the service records, so the site was allowed to continue in order to gain more information about the patrons.

Nothing there said anyone was caught. More people were gathering information on how to avoid being caught AND how to harm more children while this site was up.

I realize some might think this is a good idea on the surface. Just let it sink in what they were doing. This was EVIL. There is no other way to look at this morally.

What the FBI did was EVIL. Pure and simple. How many more pedophiles have they helped create, encourage with leaving these pictures/videos up? This is depraved.
