N.J. Senate votes to overhaul state's firearms ID system
The Star-Ledger ^ | Thursday, May 30, 2013 | Matt Friedman

The state Senate today passed 10 gun control measures, including a "centerpiece" bill Senate President Stephen Sweeney touted as a national model.

The bill (S2723) would overhaul the way the state issues firearms permits, embedding them on licenses instead of issuing them separately. The bill would create a system for instant background checks, while purchase permits would last four years instead of 90 days. It would also require gun buyers to show proof they’ve undergone safety training.

“This is about common sense gun reform and moving forward in the State of New Jersey,” Sweeney (D-Gloucester) said after the vote. “It has very tough gun laws, but I’ve always said we could strengthen them and we could do better.”

Sweeney said he’s hopeful the Assembly will pass the legislation and that Christie will sign it into law.

Other bills passed today would upgrade ban .50 caliber rifles (A3569), upgrade penalties for criminals caught with guns (S2804), require criminals caught with guns to post full cash bail (S1133), and increase the statute of limitations for theft of guns from 5 years to 10 years (S2801).

“I will not step foot into NJ until there is a radical change in they way these marxist scumbags view our constitution rights.”

Pardon the correction, but we have exactly NO Constitutional rights. The Constitution grants us no rights at all. What it does is it enumerates our God-given and inalienable rights.

To say that the Constitution grants us rights opens the door for liberals to think that they can erase those rights with the mere stroke of a pen.

And I am come to the point of view that the Marxists won’t ever change their views. They can only be removed from power or purged. Either would be satisfactory to me.

Let’s focus on NJ. I don’t want to split hairs with you. We have God-given rights, some have been enumerated in the Bill of Rights and it is completely acceptable refer to our constitutional rights. The problem with NJ and Marxists think government gives us our rights, and hence they can be taken away by government. The constitution is very clear as to where our rights come from and it ain’t government.

I live in Mississippi and not only will I never set foot in NJ or NY again... I don’t even want them to come down here. If it is so great there... stay there. To all you CONSERVATIVES that are forced to live behind the Iron Curtain... you will be welcomed.

Since criminals pay NO attention to laws, this exercise in stupidity will be of benefit to them as it equally disadvantages the law abiding NJ citizens.

LLS,
I am not sure if there are any real conservatives in NJ. My sister lives there, was a conservative before she moved there, claims she is still a conservative, but after 10 years of indoctrination she isn't much of a conservative. Like Rush says, "Liberalism is a disease." I seriously think most people in NJ are infected.

It is not like PA, NY, or MD where there are actually places removed liberal strong holds. I know people that live in Upstate NY, Western MD and I live in Central PA. In all of those places you can be surrounded by a majority of conservatives and elect Republicans across the board, from township commissioners, school directors, state legislators to congressmen. I may be ignorant about NJ, but I don't think it is possible to live anywhere in NJ where you are insulated from liberals. Hence, over time, one gets infected with their thinking.

I hope that they have some Conservatives in NJ. Some have to live there due to work or maybe the Military. Your point is well taken however.

I'm not sure if it covers black powder or not. And to tell you the truth they don't know the difference between smokeless and black powder.

>>> I don’t think it is possible to live anywhere in NJ where you are insulated from<<<

Sussex county NJ is redder than many red counties in Red States.

NW corner of the state, 60.3% R in the last election which is about equal to the Statewide percentage of Arkansas or Alabama. Democrats cannot run in my town, they won’t ever win. We’re just outnumbered by the uber libs in Bergen and Essex counties.
