Last week, the executive board of Boy Scouts of America voted to allow openly gay kids into their programs, thus compromising their long standing set of Christian morals and values. When I heard about their vote, it saddened me to see them succumb to the pressures of a debauched society.
In my report last week about their compromise, I predicted that a number of church sponsored Boy Scout programs would be ended the same way it happened in Canada when they allowed the gays to go camping with them. Well, it seems the exodus has begun.
Southeast Christian Church first opened its doors in 1962 with 53 charter members in Louisville, KY. It has an average weekly attendance of 22,000 and a membership of over 30,000. It is the largest church in Kentucky and fifth largest in the United States.

I've read some of the anti-LDS threads on FR. And I read elsewhere on the net opinions about what is happening in SLC. The comment about fearing damage to missionary work was an opinion presented by an LDS insider. It sounded plausible. Remember, the LDS Church proffered an olive branch last DEC on its web-site to its homosexual members asking them to remain in the church while at the same time standing by its policy that active homosexuality is still sinful. There have been news accounts out of Utah this year where lawmakers are currently introducing legislation to end discrimination against homosexuals in Utah. There are other news stories that church women are pushing for more unpresidented involvement in the church.
One story I read offered the opinion that the LDS could well seperate from BSA and form its own scout association, especially since half of the church's membership is overseas. Given church history, that sounds plausible. In 1875, Mormon Church President Brigham Young organized the Young Mens Mutual Improvement Association (YMMIA). Its purpose was to "help young men develop their gifts, to stand up and speak, and to bear testimony." In 1911 the LDS church followed the pattern developed by the BSA and created the YMMIA Scouts. Shortly thereafter it adopted the BSA program as its official male youth program on 5/21/1913.
The LDS Church heavily supported the BSA in 2000 when the SCOTUS ruled in BSAs favor in BSA v Dale. Leadership out of SLC let it be known that if the BSA caved into the homosexualists and permitted homosexual membership, the church would seperate from the BSA.
Just surveying the landscape, you cannot help observing there are 5 nationally prominent Mormons in the U.S. today.
Mitt Romney has advocated for homosexual (youth and adult)membership in the BSA since 1994 when he sat on the BSA National Executive Board. When he took over leadership of the 2002 SLC Winter Olympic Committee, he barred Boy Scouts (who were overwhelmingly Mormon) from volunteering at Olympic venues. Boy Scouts volunteered and served in large numbers at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. On his watch as governor of MA in 2004, it became the 1st state to legalize homosexual marriage (granted, it was done thru the state supreme court). Insiders have stated that LDS Church leadership did not want to harm Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign by continuing the culture war against homosexual marriage and thereby incurring the homosexual lobby's wrath.
Harry Reed is a U.S. Senator (D-NV) and current Senate Majority Leader. He has vigorously pursued POTUS #44 BHO's agenda these last 4+ years.
Glenn Beck is a libertarian/conservative talk radio host and media mogul. He announced his support for homosexual marriage in 2013.
Jon Huntsman Jr. is a past progressive governor (R-UT) and former ambassador to Red China under POTUS #44 BHO. He also ran in the 2012 GOP Presidential Primary. In FEB 2013 he (1) announced his support for homosexual marriage and (2) signed an amicus brief for the plaintiff to present before the SCOTUS to oppose Californias Proposition 8.
Wayne Perry is the current BSA National President and co-owner of the Seattle Mariners. He personally pleaded the case with the Prophet of the LDS Church to support a change in BSAs membership policy to accept open homosexual youth.
Again, ty MacNaughton. Very informative stuff there. Biggest surprise for me is Glenn Beck but all of it is interesting.
Opportunity knocks! Start a new scouting organization based on the original BSA principles, and heavy on conservatism.
With more conservative bishops being appointed by the Pope that may begin to change also down the road.
How many years have you been a registered scout.
Why, because I don’t think Congress should be picking which private clubs get special gubment treatment?
I joined the Army in the middle of a war while I had a wife and kids. I’ve spent so much time away from my boys to take care of this country that my youngest two boys hardly know me. Now I get this kind of crap from a Boy Scout sissy.
I’m not afraid of you and I’m not afraid of your beloved Boy Love Scouts either. Call me a coward to my face. You are the chicken. You think the only way for the Boy Love Scouts to survive is through gubment protection. If they are as weak as you, I suppose that’s the only way for them to survive.
IF YOU LOVE THE BOY LOVE SCOUTS, YOU PAY FOR THEM. STOP USING MY TAX DOLLARS TO FUND THEM.
Spoke to one local group leader...their strategy is not to leave. They feel it is too important to continue working with the boys that are in their group and keep them grounded regardless of the BSA policy change. Also the reality that all of a sudden, a rash of gay kids joining their group is very unlikely.
How they are going to protest is that their group is one of the large fundraisers for BSA. At this point, they are going to quit fundraising for the national orgainization, and only fund for their troop ($30-$40,000/year)...They will only submit their annual $10 fee for membership.
He thinks that many of the other local groups will be doing the same...If may of them do this, it will be a big impact.
That vote was even dumber than New Coke.
As for the evangelical churches, since they are mostly congregational and sometimes miscategorized (e.g., among Presbyterians, the PCA denomination is far closer doctrinally to conservative Southern Baptists than to the PCUSA denomination), they lack the impact of the centrally organized Mormon and Catholic Churches. They also tend to have their own youth organizations, like AWANAs and Royal Rangers. However, I have to wonder if those evangelical megachurches that support a BSA troop or lease space to one are willing to take a media bashing by being the first to cut off Boy Scouts. If and when a Mac Brunson, a Max Lucado, a Tim Keller, or a John MacArthur does so (assuming their churches have any BSA connections), they will suffer an onslaught from the mainstream media vultures.
The BSA has been essentially subverted, following a pattern of leftist incursion and later domination that occurred as early as the late 1800s at Harvard and Yale and has affected hundreds of tax free foundations, mainline Protestant denominations, public education, and of course the news and entertainment media. Any continued support of the organization will only result in feeding what has become yet another enemy of the Christian faith and historic Western values.
“Harry Reed “
Harry Reid
We have one gay Scout and he really doesn’t attend anything. At that age, gay is more of an attention getting thing rather than a sex thing.
I have a conspiracy theory
LDS troops don’t have to worry about gay kids joining because they are an extension of the church youth group. If the BSA does hit rough water, the LDS church can buy up some of the BSA facilities on the cheap. That’s why they supported allowing gay scouts.
With all due respect to those who have the attitude of stay and fight, I do not think you realize the full impact of this decision.
BSA has lost ALL legal recourse for keep homosexual leaders/adults out, for all programs. The Dale case from the supreme court agreed with BSA on its freedom of association. The key point in that decision was the foundational principal that homosexuality was wrong. This decision removes that point. If you read any of the posts that the BSA is putting out on this you will find that this is a position of affirmation that homosexuality is normal. The previous policy was one of tolerance this is total acceptance. The key players on both sides of the issue agree the adult homosexuals will be in Scouting very soon. The group ‘scouting for equality’ which spearheaded this change ( with help from BSA insiders) will not stop until there are no membership standards. After the adults are in they will then target religion and reverence, to allow atheist to join. Do a search on it and you will find the lawsuits are already getting setup. Also multiple councils have already said that they will openly defy the new policy and allow open and avowed adult homosexuals. BSA will do nothing to stop this. Even now there are troops in Cambridge MA. (Minutemen Council) that allow coed Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and troops with openly homosexual scoutmasters. Our Scout executive when informed of this said that there are a large number of troops operating like this and he saw nothing wrong. The Cambridge troop has been coed for several years, so it is obvious that BSA National will not act.
There will be internal changes to BSA. The Family Life merit badge centers around the ‘nuclear family’ i.e. father, mother, children. Does anyone really think the homosexual activist will allow that. That badge is Eagle required so acceptance and normalcy of homosexuality will be taught by BSA to all who want Eagle.
The activist have also said that they will target troops or councils that resist this policy. Since BSA national has made this change there will be no legal assistance, the council troops are on there own.
I am a Scoutmaster with 2 sons on the path to Eagle. My wife was on the committee. We WERE a Scouting family, and we have been very active in fighting this. The bottom line is the top level of BSA is infected with progressive liberals, as were many of the delegates who voted. No other Scouting group that has chosen this course thrives. Canada Scouts are in trouble as are Britain’s units.
The only way fight this is a complete overhaul of the top of BSA dissolving the liberal councils. Neither of those actions will occur. It is time to build anew.
My son said it best... “ The only way to follow the true meaning of the Scout Oath and Law is to no longer be in the BSA” It is a sad time.
BSA is not taxpayer funded.
A concise presentation of the overall BIG picture. Excellent executive summary.
That is the position stated below ...

Something sounds like it was lost in translation. I am not aware of any individual unit conducting a fundraising event where some of the proceeds go to BSA National in Irving, TX. The closest example that comes to mind of this scenario is the annual Trails End Popcorn Sale. The local councils get an ~30% commission of the sales conducted by units (Cub Packs do the lion's share of the selling.)
He thinks that many of the other local groups will be doing the same...If may of them do this, it will be a big impact.
Need to think this through. Those units which intend to stick with BSA but want to send a message by hurting BSA National in the pocket are in reality directing their frustration at their local council. Yes, it can be done in 3 ways - stop funding your (1) local United Way chapter, (2) local council's FoS (Friends of Scouting) campaign, and (3) stop selling Trails End Popcorn (which also hurts the unit). But here's the point - even if a vast majority of units do this, all you will do is succeed in shutting down your local council. You will still need somewhere to purchase uniforms and literature. And yes, that can be done on-line. But those sales proceeds would go right back to BSA National, thus you would still be feeding the beast.
