(CNSNews.com) President Barack Obama delivered the commencement speech at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on Friday, blaming the misconduct of a few for erosion of the publics "trust in the government."
Everyday our civil servants do their jobs with professionalism, protecting our national security and delivering the services that so many Americans expect, but as weve seen again in recent days, it only takes the misconduct of a few to further erode to the peoples trust in their government, and thats unacceptable to me, and I know thats unacceptable to you, Obama told graduates.
Its no secret that in recent decades, many Americans have lost confidence in many of the institutions that help shape our society and our democracy, but I suggest to you today that institutions do not fail in a vacuum. Institutions are made up of people, individuals, and weve seen how the actions of a few can undermine the integrity of those institutions, he said.
He added that the misdeeds of some while risk-taking or putting profits before people sparked a financial crisis and deepened the recession that cost millions of Americans their jobs.
All too often weve seen the politics where compromise is rejected as a dirty word and policies are driven by special interests rather than the national interests, and that breeds a cynicism that threatens our democracy, the president said.
The presidents comments come amid scandals that have plagued the administration recently, including the IRS targeting conservative groups and the Justice Department seizing the phone records of reporters and editors at the Associated Press.
As CNSNews.com reported, the president on Thursday announced that Attorney General Eric Holder would conduct a review of Justice Department investigations involving journalists.
CNSNews.com also reported that outgoing IRS commissioner Steven Miller told the Senate Finance Committee Tuesday that the IRSs actions were not partisan but foolish mistakes made by employees trying to be more efficient.
It will take the removal of this cancer adhered to the White Hut, but perhaps after this tragedy is over and we still have a nation, a leader will emerge can begin reconstruction with honesty and integrity.
Too damned many incompetent empire builders to regulate in these agencies. Getting rid of worthless agencies and their minions, the states should assume their rightful responsibilities as 'one size doesn't fit all'.
The media is very ill and sick of the Obamaitis disease and many will die off in the near future. The ones that remain will be those who sponsor small central government that performs one job well: defending the nation.
Some of our embassies abroad should be closed and diplomatic and economic presense in most all nations should end. Our borders need to be closed and protected and all those who embrace islam should be deported regardless of their citizenship status.
What Obama has done to the negro race in America is a shame. He has shown such gross incompetence and bias towards America's enemies and his inept socialist blunderings that his record will undoubtedly spill over to dilute the achievements made by this race that belongs exclusively to the Democrat Party.
The fat cat bureaucrats and agency appointees, plus the detrimental appointment of SC justices proves how much this enemy hates America. If America were to suffer much more of this hateful performance by a government it would begin to look like Madrid in 1936.
Especially when the few are at the top.
rotten from the head down
This is from The Onion, right?
Actually, the arrogance of the many is what rankles taxpayers, El Bozo. They are paying for more government than anyone should have.
The Founders would call it “oppressive” and contrary to the principles of the Constitution. Of course, a constitutional scholar such as BO should know that, shouldn’t he?
He’s at the top of my lack of trust list.
The primary erosional force is the treacherous tyranny of the won
So far, he has largely gotten away with pretending he’s a bystander to the corruption. There have been a few cracks in the veneer as of late, but he still has enough sycophants in the media to keep up the act.
“This is from The Onion, right?”
Sadly no. If it were from the Onion we could just chuckle and move on. We are stuck with this clown for four more years.
It only takes a few. This is an argument for more power?
He’s gotten away with pretending he’s an American with a prestigious academic background.
yeah 99% of government bureaucrats give the rest of ‘em a bad image, eh?
I heard the president of Gibson Guitars describe the raid on three of his factories by “about 30 SWAT-dressed people with automatic weapons”. His people were ordered to turn off the video recording equipment before the “search” began. That made my blood boil and got me hopeful that the lights that are being shined in so many areas may finally cause a groundswell of pushback. I hope so, because I’m sitting here pulling duty on Memorial Day and wondering what all these people who have died for their country would be thinking about such jackboot tactics in that country.
Ambassador to UN
Head of the IRS
US Attorney General
These are not ordinary Federal workers. They are all appointed....By the President
And anyone who says "But he knew nothing"...
Well, I got a bridge....
The fish rots from the head on down.
Seriously, there does come a time when a nation needs to examine itself and it’s professed principles. Then it either cleanses itself to reflect the principles it espouses or it changes it’s professed principles to what is actually there. In either case it’s going to get rocky for sometime as the people in the nation are NOT going to be in full accord with each other.
I think that right now is the beginning of the examination of principles, it’s been put off for too long under the names of Multiculturalism, Diversity and Political Correctness. And we can truly thank Obama for pushing that need for examination to the fore. If they had just kept up their slow incremental destruction of the founding Fathers principles they would have their perfect Dystopia with them on top and the ignorant serfs serving their every whims.
But now that might all be in jeopardy... and they are not going to go away without a very nasty fight.
My attitude is...if you get a government paycheck (municipal, state *or* Federal) and are not a uniformed member of the Armed Forces you are almost certainly my enemy, intending to steal my money and/or my God given freedoms.
The worst part about Watergate was that expectations for the MSM to actually hold government officials accountable was really built up. But now. looking back, it was just a partisan which hunt. Today we have a President that makes Nixon look like a boy Scout (pre Butt Pirate type) In retrospect the whole Watergate thing was totally overblown BS. And I don’t really like Nixon, he was a progressive RINO socialist....
