Some call it wishful thinking, but President Barack Obama has all but declared an end to the global war on terror.
Obama is not claiming final victory over extremists who still seek to kill Americans and other Westerners. Instead, he is steering the United States away from what he calls an equally frightening threat: a country in a state of perpetual war.
In a landmark speech Thursday in which he sought to refine and recalibrate his counterterrorism strategy, Obama asserted that al-Qaida is "on the path to defeat," reducing the scale of terrorism to pre-Sept. 11 levels. That means that with the Afghanistan war winding down, Obama is unlikely to commit troops in large numbers to any conflict -- in Syria or other countries struggling with instability in the uncertain aftermath of the Arab Spring -- unless, as his critics fear, he tragically has underestimated al-Qaida's staying power.....

The problem with Zero premise is the al-Qaida radical ideology is alive and well and even growing within regions and countries...especially in the arab spring countries...

Good, let’s take him up on it. Time to get rid of the TSA, DHS, Patriot Act and go back to pre-9/11 security levels.
Homeland Security including all of TSA and its components.
Declare victory and carry on life to pre 9/11 levels!. Conservatives should take his cue and shove it up his behind by embracing this concept and all its deeper meanings.
That is, of course, the nature of Islam. That is all in the Koran and activity depends on having resources in excess of just enough that the people have a bare subsistence and a tiny ruling class lives in splendor. All through history whenever Moslems have been able to acquire that surplus they have beset and overrun their neighbors. That seemed to have ended in part in the 17th century after a series of massive military defeats that destroyed their martial ability and finally in the 1800s when the Turks were forced out of Greece and most of the Balkans. The wealth required for Jihad simply was not there. The Moslem hordes were prevented from conquering new wealth by the rapid advance of western technology and economy over that of the saracens. Then there was OIL. Now the Mohammedan world is rich beyond its dreams of a century ago and Islam is in Conquest mode. And the West is financing it and politically promoting it.
He’s right. The terrorists are plotting our destruction and our government is pretending they don’t exist. Just like the day before 9/11.
The only difference is that a large portion of the population is yelling at the rest to pull their heads out of their asses, but no one listens to those “alarmists”.
There has been muslim terrorism, in its current forms, against the US in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s & 2010s. What makes Obama think there was basically nothing before 9/11?
