Next they’ll ban tours of Detroit. Oh, there aren’t any tours of Detroit . . . ?
Being that NYC is now a despotic state under despot Bloomberg, I’m surprised that tours are even allowed and not banned.
Why is there outrage? For showing reality?
Actually there are tours in Detroit run by the locals despite the outrage of some city council members.
Unlike NY, Detroit is still free
Its not the tours that are illegal in N.Y. it’s the taking of pictures of the slums.
They’ll just change the language and set up shop again under a new name. Crime-wise, today’s Bronx is a pale shadow of what it was in the 80’s, and that’s a good thing. Tourists can get vicarious thrills without being in any real danger.
Some Freeper has the clever tagline “To outrage a conservative, tell him a lie. To outrage a liberal, tell him the truth.”
So When are the Hollywood Blvd tours going to stop?
No one has a ‘right’ to not be looked at in public. Anyone in a tourist town/historical area just accepts it as the price of living where you live. You are scenery.
Of course if these particular exhibits have an issue, they have a choice. Move or fix the reason they are on display.
The first was written by a retired police lieutenant from the 41st Precinct in the South Bronx, nicknamed "Fort Apache" because it was literally an outpost in the middle of a territory of savages. The second was written by a retired firefighter who spent most of his career at the fire house right around the corner from Fort Apache.
The two books are unrelated and were published separately, but the story they tell is the same.
Anyone who gets offended by a "Ghetto Tour" in the Bronx might be interested to know that the 41st Precinct is now known affectionately as "Little House on the Prairie" -- because it is a quiet, pristine place compared to what it was 30-40 years ago.
Reality is taboo.
Reminds me of the time I picked up German relatives at Miami Intl Airport.
They thought Miami was all South Beach and rich people. They were gasping when they saw the crap hole neighborhood near MIA as we sat in traffic. And, this was not first time in Miami for them...as they usually came in winter and not summer...being dark already in early evening arrivals after earlier trips
They did not need a 45 buck ghetto tour...lol
Detroit should be a hunting preserve.
Imagine a hoax, in which a “travel agency” arranges for Europeans to come to the US, provides them with a map of a “bad part of town”, and a weapon, and lets them go “hunting” predatory criminals.
They provide them with an armed backup in the shadows, in case they are either surprised or outnumbered. When they are attacked and lethally defend themselves, then their backup takes some pictures of the scene as proof, disposes of the weapon, and cleanses the scene of any DNA with bleach, as needed.
All very illegal, and very expensive. Exclusive.
In any event, as a hoax leaked to some European websites, imagine the hilarity when the nanny governments learn of it and are horrified, and try to stop it.
The residents in question sent the tour operator a very effective message.
Now..., if they could just tour in this.

Saw this earlier today and thought of it on this thread.
