NEW DELHI The Indian government is evaluating the possibility of stationing troops in Afghanistan after the international forces begin leaving the country in 2014.
An Indian Ministry of Defence source said no decision has yet been taken, but the possibility of putting boots in Afghanistan is under consideration by the Indian government.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai is visiting New Delhi May 20-22 and the issue of stationing of Indian troops is likely to be discussed, said an official of the Indian External Affairs Ministry.
It is in Indias interest to enhance security and defense cooperation with Afghanistan, added the official, but he would not comment if a decision has been made.
Currently, Indias defense relations with Afghanistan is only at the cooperation level, including training of personnel at Indian institutes. The Indian government had previously opposed stationing ground troops unless it is under the umbrella of the United Nations.
New Delhi will have to be very careful in supplying weapons and equipment and stationing troops in Afghanistan so that it does not project itself to be over enthusiastic in its presence in Afghanistan, once the international troops leave in 2014, said analyst Nitin Mehta.

The Indian Army on Pakistan’s northeast flank. Do you think they will mind much?
Listen, I just heard the pucker factor max out in Islamabad!
Of course, the good question is how they would supply them. Pakistan is out, as is China. The only way through is either via Russia and the central Asian nations, or across Georgia and Azerbaijan, through the Black Sea, and then on into Turkmenistan.
The best US South Asia policy would be to turn Afghanistan over to India, as well as ban all travel from Pakistan into the USA.
Let India sort it out.
Persia.
They will allow India port access to Afghanistan, bartering it for oil sales to India.
Exactly! Pakistan isn’t going to be happy about this.
Ping.
That was my first thought as I read that—how would Indian troops get to Afghanistan?
Only one possible outcome, war with Pakis
Here’s something to ponder, for those into it — the end-times material references the kings of the four cardinal points, converging on the Tribes of Israel, and at least some of the Lost Tribes exiled by the Assyrians were marched up into Central Asia and their descendants live there today. China (east), Russia (north), India (south), US and EU (west).

India and Israel are allies and their relationship has been only growing of late
A couple of days before 9/11/2001 alQaeda terrorists using Belgian passports and dressed as reporters assassinated Afghan general Shah Ahmed Massood ... Pakistan was at that time propping up the Taliban and were no doubt overjoyed since if Massood had lived to see the defeat of the Taliban, he would likely have won the presidency of Afghanistan and being a nationalist would be inclined to be friendly with India in order to preserve Afghan independence against Pakistani encroachment. India had been helping his fighters against the Taliban and he had been the US ally in the past, the General whose forces received our Stinger missiles [not al Qaeda or OBL as some claim] in the war against the USSR before the Clinton folks decided to dump him and back Pakistan-friendly Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s forces, instead. (Clinton sure knew how to pick ‘em.) Hekmatyar sometime after 9/11 joined alQaeda against the US, surprise, surprise.
India’s also part of BRICS, which includes its arch-enemy China, so I hope Israel doesn’t get too comfortable. India’s presence in Afghanistan is more of a move to check the pseudostate Pakistan.
If you look at it that way, India is also part of SAARC and this includes Pakistan!
BRICS is more or less an economic bloc and has little to do with Israel. They have never as a bloc taken political decisions together yet as they all have differing views thought the Chinese premier wanted it so.
In any case, BRICS also does include Brazil and SA, who for the most part don’t really care about what happens in the Middle east.
India and Israel actually have established Military and Strategic ties and Israel is close to toppling Russia as the primary arms supplier to India. And they also have intelligence sharing set up. India has also launched a spy satellite for Israel. And guess which country has never ever in its history prosecuted Jews? Yup its India.
Persecuted.. not prosecuted... stupid spell check!
