“Woolwich attack: terrorist proclaimed ‘an eye for an eye’ after attack

A British soldier has been butchered on a busy London street by two Islamist terrorists, one of whom proclaimed afterwards: “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.””

By Gordon Rayner and Steven Swinford10:00PM BST 22 May 2013

SNIPPET: “In the first terrorist murder on the British mainland since the 7/7 suicide bombings of 2005, the men attempted to behead the soldier, hacking at him like a “piece of meat” in front of dozens of witnesses, before both were shot by police who took around 20 minutes to arrive.

After the killing, one of the men, believed to be a British-born Muslim convert, spoke calmly into a witness’s video phone.”

SNIPPET: “Witnesses said that the men used a car to run over the soldier just yards from the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south-east London, before setting about him with knives and a meat cleaver as if they were “trying to remove organs”. One unconfirmed report suggested that he had been beheaded.

Passers-by said they thought at first that the attackers were trying to help the man, who was wearing a Help for Heroes T-shirt, and only realised they were killing him when they got closer.

As they attacked the soldier, one of the men shouted “Allahu akbar”, or God is Great, according to the BBC, while another witness said they appeared to pray next to the body as if the solder was a “sacrifice”.

Their victim, thought to be aged around 20, had reportedly been on duty at an Army recruitment office in central London and was on his way back to the barracks when he was murdered at 2.20pm.”

“Mum talked down Woolwich terrorists who told her: ‘We want to start a war in London tonight’”

SNIPPET: “Exclusive: A cub scout leader confronted terrorists just seconds after they had beheaded a soldier asking them to hand over their weapons and warning them: “It is only you versus many people, you are going to lose.””

“Jihadists Suspected in Shocking Daylight Attack Outside London”

by IPT News • May 22, 2013 at 3:09 pm

SNIPPET: “Other witnesses reported hearing the attackers shout “Allahu Akhbar” – God is Great – as they attacked the soldier outside Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolich. The victim was not in uniform. Instead, he wore a T-shirt promoting a charity that serves wounded British troops.

The attackers left his body in the street and reportedly stayed nearby, “waving knives and a gun, and asked people to take pictures of them “as if they wanted to be on TV or something,’” the BBC reports.

Officials are calling it an Islamist terror attack.

Prime Minister David Cameron said the attack was “truly shocking” and called for an emergency meeting of security officials.”

“Woolwich attack: ‘I looked him in the eye. I was sure he wasn’t going to kill me’

Former Cub Scout leader Ingrid Loyau-Kennett tells Sarah Rainey of the moment she came face to face with Woolwich murder suspects and told them to drop their bloody weapons .”

By Sarah Rainey10:36PM BST 23 May 2013

SNIPPET: “Within seconds of getting off the bus, Mrs Loyau-Kennett realised there was more to the scene than she had thought. The dead man had apparently been run over in a car and attacked with knives. A Caribbean woman tending to the man on the ground told her he was dead.

“I took his arm to feel his pulse,” she remembers. “There was blood on the pavement where he had been dragged and blood was pouring out of him. Suddenly this excited black man came up to me and said, ‘Get away from the body; don’t touch it’. I looked up and I could see red hands, a bloodied revolver, bloodied meat cleaver and a butcher’s knife. OK, I thought, this is bad.” She stood up and started talking to the suspect, now believed to be Michael Adeboloja. “He said the man was a British soldier and he had killed him,” she explains. “He said he did it because British soldiers had killed women and children in Muslim countries.”

She says she tried not to think about the weapons the man was carrying. “It’s one thing to take your car and kill someone — and it’s another to look someone in the eyes and plunge a knife into their stomach. I was sure he was not going to do that to me. I didn’t even think his revolver was working, so I asked him. He looked at it and then at me and said, ‘Yes’.”

Mrs Loyau-Kennett says that the suspect looked “genuinely upset, like someone who had seen something terrible. He seemed very agitated.”

When he walked away, she approached the other man. “He looked older and he said nothing,” she said. “I asked him if he wanted to sit down and give me what he had in his hands.”

Ten minutes passed. A crowd had gathered around the dead soldier, but still nobody else approached the suspects. “There were 50 to 60 people,” says Mrs Loyau-Kennett. “They were watching; filming on their phones. I pushed one back because he was too close. I told them if they want to do something, come and help. It made me sad. They were thinking of themselves, not about this poor guy.””
