I hate to hear this and know he is, now, in a better place - probably getting high with JM. I saw him not more than 15 years ago at UCA in Conway AR. I’m starting to feel old...

Manzarek was The Doors. He played bass and keyboards simultaneously and either wrote or fleshed-out most of Morrison’s ideas for songs

Morrison was preening, pretentious, troubled, artsy drug-addict necessary for most successful 60’s and 70’s rock bands.

The keyboard music on “L.A. Woman” was great. I saw a documentary on the Doors that described how they did it. Very interesting. Another bit of Doors trivia, Jim Morrison’s father Rear Admiral Steve Morrison lived in Coronado, CA until he died in November 2008.Admiral Morrison was senior officer present aboard the U.S.S. Constellation at the Gulf of Tonkin incident in August 1964. RIP.

RIP as a former fan of the band, to dark for me now. But the organ / base lines of Love me Two Times are running through my head as I type.

Aw man. I’ve been a Doors fan since hearing Light My Fire on my first FM radio in 1977.

Bet this features prominently on Coast-to-Coast AM tonight. I think he and George Noori were pretty good friends...at least that’s the impression I got the few times I heard him on the show.

When I was about 10 years old, around 1965, I was camping at Grand Haven, Mich. with my friends and one girl's parents. My friend's half brother was a record producer and was in from LA with his some of his other producer buddies and we were hanging around these cooler older guys (trying not to be annoying) when my friend's brother Jack said to the other guys "Hey, there's this funky little band with this crazy keyboard player and lead singer who are just outasight. You gotta hear em. They call themselves The Doors".

True story.

C’mon, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon now touch me babe,
Can’t you see that I am not afraid......

That one always gets me in a primal place. Loved their music back in the day. RIP, Mr Manzarek. You are legend.

He brought his brother onstage when I saw Ray with Robby. That’s as close to a Rick and the Ravens’ reunion as I’m ever going to see.

I’m at a loss right now, one of the Door’s tunes ends with “Stronger Than Dirt”. A local d.j. mused “What can that mean?” I called in and said that as a toddler in the late 50’s I remember an Ajax commercial that had a jingo that ended the same way “(Ay-jax)Stronger Than Dirt”.

The Keyboard work on Light My Fire can only be described as Iconic.(possibly the only other iconic keyboard man from that era would be Garth Hudson ie. Chest Fever)

RIP Ray, you entertained me.
