Michelle Obama criticizes the worship of celebrities, sports stars

Michelle Obama on Friday urged black youth to stay in school instead of dropping out to become a "baller or a rapper."
The first lady, speaking to graduates at Bowie State University, a historically black college, criticized the worship of sports stars and celebrities.
"Today, instead of walking miles every day to school, theyre sitting on couches for hours playing video games, watching TV," she said of black youth. "Instead of dreaming of being a teacher or a lawyer or a business leader, theyre fantasizing about being a baller or a rapper."
She went on to point out the high dropout rate for black students.
"Right now, one in three African-American students are dropping out of high school. Only one in five African-Americans between the ages of 25 and 29 has gotten a college degree one in five," she said.
The first lady also encouraged parents to turn off the TV and take away video games.
"Take a stand against the media that elevates todays celebrity gossip instead of the serious issues of our time. Take a stand against the culture that glorifies instant gratification instead of hard work and lasting success," she said.
Obama was giving her second commencement address of the graduation season. She spoke to students at Eastern Kentucky University earlier this month and will address graduates Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet School in Nashville, Tenn., on May 18.
Kind of ironic.
Sports and Entertainment are the only two legal, competitive professions in which Black Americans excel.
And Michelle criticizes those who aspire to work there?
Oh, well.
Back to drug dealing, welfare, and Affirmative Action paychecks.
Oh, where to begin? The irony is delicious.
Please send that to the White House!
Re: “Bayport”
Are you a fan of the old “Hardy Boys” detective novels?
Bayport is their home town.
You mean Shelly isn’t honoring and meeting for deep discussions with the physicists and scientists and intellectuals of the day?
You mean Shelly isn’t honoring and meeting for deep discussions with the physicists and scientists and intellectuals of the day?
I guess she doesn’t understand irony.
What Michelle is saying is that hey everyone, worship her husband instead..Hey Michelle, maybe you should convey the not worshipping sports stars to your husband, who was so giddy about calling Jason Collins, a has been basketball player who averaged 2 points a game, because he is a fudge packer
You’re not supposed to worship those people. You’re supposed to worship the Obamas.
If it weren’t for celebrity worship her husband would not be president. I don’t know what percentage (80-90?) but a solid majority of Obama’s supporters could not name and define a single Obama policy.
Well they are monotheists.
No, Michelle thinks they should be worshiping her.
If they are a homosexual basketball player that’s acceptable.
Is being a baller like being a baby daddy?
Did Buh-rock get a degree, Mooch? How do we know since his transcripts are locked up.
