Hey, there will be no common sense on a good cop-hating thread. All cops, without exception, are jack-booted thugs whose only pleasures in life are to hassle you and shoot your dog.
/sarc (if the tag is needed). Yours is sensible advice, and also one of the first things that I did when I moved to my new town. Local cops where I am are pretty good. Chief is no-nonsense, but a stand up guy. Kind of guy you'd want on your side in a fight.
While I will admit that generally, I’m not a big fan of LEOs overall, I will never push away an ally that can and will help in the event of any SHTF scenario.
We’ve been on “SHTF Standby” for a while now. It’s nice to know who’s on your side - and who’s not - in your locale. Especially when they have potential inside intel on things happening thereabouts.
Most of the time, one need only pay a small modicum of attention to your surroundings... Dem lawn signs and Ohole bumper stickers are a good indication of who is most assuredly NOT on your side.
I don’t know about “cop hating”. However I am a proponent of small government. Cops are the strong arm, the tip of the spear of big government. Cops as a species are known to exploit privlidge for personal gain.
Corrupt politicians without corrupt cops and courts are like a tiger with no claws or teeth: scary looking, impressive, but relatively harmless.
So that is why small government proponents derid and belittle law enforcement: its policy, not hatred, not personal. I have noticed that folks on FR who are big cop supporters tend to be Law and Order types with a confused view of civil liberties. By that I mean confusing support for the fourth amendment as being “soft on crime” yet forgetting the dangerous nature of big government.
