Well, I haven’t tried to plant any melons at all or any okra. Got such a late start I only put out maters, peppers, cukes and squash. But, I also planted some new perenials, shrubs n flowers around the yard. This is our 3rd full summer in this place. The first one was the drought from hell, temps 110 plus every day for half of August. We lost almost everything we put in new the year before. The second summer I spent driving my uncle back and forth to Houston for cancer treatments. Last summer I was laid up after surgery for months so this year, I’m decoratin the yard.

Sure wish I had a spot for okra tho. Don’t have one and too late to make one.

Well this is the first year at the “new” “old” place. Had a hard time getting things started because of the global warming. Had to re-plant my so-called spring garden. I still have stuff to this week and we’re still getting lows in the 40’s.

Coool. Looks like machete country..

This is NOT London! Here, everybody in our neighborhood (Barangay) has a machete, as many of them are working in the sugar cane fields or rice fields. It isn't considered a weapon, but just a tool. Some do carry them for personal security at night though!

Foreigners here cannot own guns, exceptions can be made with permission of the local Police Chief. I already have my permit for a shotgun (...just for hunting, I said!!!), as my location is near to some previously inhabited NPA (Communists) camps in the mountains (photo taken from there!). They are most active around election times, which was just finished last week. They have been known to kidnap foreigners, but not around here. They did shoot and kill a former police chief, when confronted a couple of years ago.

I go walking all around in the hills, as I haven't learned to fear them yet, and all of the locals already know me after only 3 months here.

Life is good, and it is now time for my lunch (just finished watching like you, but here, the commercial breaks are few and far between, and when you have them, I still get to watch the cars go round!

Fell and broke the hip after tripping on a curb. Re-hap going slowly due to memory issues. Family will be making some tough decisions in the next 2 weeks.
