Victim punched in the head in unprovoked attack
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Providence Police are investigating a number of violent attacks that all took place within one half hour early Sunday morning.
Brown University sophomore, Joseph Sharkey, was punched in the head while he was talking to a group of women on the corner of George and Thayer Streets around 2:23 a.m. Sharkey is a guard on the Brown University Basketball team.
"He king of got sucker punched in the face and kind of hit his head on the concrete, after that he was knocked out cold," said Brown University sophomore Nick Lawley.
The victim is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital, and investigators said that the attack appears to be unprovoked.
Sharkey is in a medically induced coma to help reduce brain swelling.
Police said they are searching for a white male with a crew-cut hairstyle.
Earlier that morning, around 2:04 a.m., a 21-year-old Woonsocket man was shot in the leg near 120 Waverly St. He was brought to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment, but his injuries aren't believed to be life threatening.
Another 21-year-old man was stabbed outside Ada's Creations on Broad St. around 2:30 a.m. He was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Anyone with information about any one of these incidents can contact the Providence Police Department at (401) 272-3121.
“kind of”
bs
he was brutally attacked for no reason
Talking to a group of girls is probably not the Knockout game. They usually select people who are vunerable with few witnesses.
Looks like Woonsocket has turned into a regular Chicago.
Is there someone there who is hoping to be President?
A sucker punch to the head should be prosecuted as attempted murder with no exceptions.
Nothing good happens after midnight.
They should find out who this young man is dating and look at ex-boyfriends.
My heart and prayers go out to the young man. I hope he gets well soon.
I don’t think this was the “knockout game”, because of the description of the attacker, a white guy with a crew cut, and another important point: he was talking to women.
I suspect the attacker was one of the women’s boyfriends.
Prayers for this young man and his family.
You beat me to it! Your response is exactly what I was going to post. Teach this to my kid constantly.
A single punch?
I was asking in response to the text in the first post. Not as if I need to explain myself to you.
And bouncing his head against the concrete.
Not the story, but the text in CK’s first post.
No doubt those damn Amish are it again.
...so, what's your point if the victim in the first post died from a single punch?

Thanks for the link. Hopefully they catch the POS that did this.
He was simply asking... i am curious too... did that guy die from a single punch or was it a full-on fight? Was it a sucker punch like with the guy in this story? I am not really asking you... but i am curious...
