A Mother's Day second-line shooting on Frenchmen Street in the 7th Ward, on Sunday about 1:45 p.m., left 19 people injured, according to the latest NOPD numbers. Earlier Sunday afternoon, NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said that about 12 people had been injured, but the toll later grew to 19, with the NOPD explaining that some victims initially hadn't reported being injured and more people continue to come forward.
Police said 10 adult men, seven adult women, a 10-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were struck by bullets. Both of the 10-year-old victims had graze wounds to the body and were in good condition. A man and a woman were reported to be in surgery Sunday evening.
The shooting occurred in the 1400 block of Frenchmen Street at the intersection of North Villere Street. Immediately after the shooting police reported seeing three suspects running from the scene. One suspect was seen running on Frenchman toward North Claiborne, police said.
NOPD spokeswoman Remi Braden said many of the victims were grazed, some by bullets that ricocheted. "At this point, there are no fatalities, and most of the wounds are not life-threatening," she said in an email.

The MSM is doing all it can to keep the perp’s descriptions vague.

This is the only description I found so far...From WWLTV Eyewitness News.
"Police believe three suspects were involved. They were seen fleeing on Frenchmen toward Claiborne Avenue. One of the suspects is "a dark skinned male, 18 to 24 years old, short hair wearing a white shirt and blue jean shorts," said NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas."
What does “second-line” mean?
The address is in the 7th ward, in Treme, which is a black neighborhood.
Dark-skinned? Could be a dark-skinned Caucasian.
Just imagine the media if the shooter(s) was/were white males. They would be going nutso!!
“...a dark skinned male...”
Related to Barry Sortelo...all pieces of NS...
Waiting also...
“a dark skinned male, 18 to 24 years old, short hair wearing a white shirt and blue jean shorts,”
COONASS with a deep tan?
Could be. Maybe. Might. They hope.
That makes three of us. What the heck is “second-line”?
Local news actually just said ‘African American males’. My nephew worked the scene-N.O. paramedic.Cops everywhere and no one chased these thugs? In this case a house-to-house search is warranted. Everyone knows where the AK’s are, no one has the guts to go get them.
This was a thug neighborhood, this is a normal thug thing. If all they did was off each other there would be no great loss. It’s the moronic people who go to these ghetto ‘events’ that get it, and I can’t say I pity them. If you don’t live there-don’t go there! Ah, but the ‘Treme’ tv series glamorized this crime-ridden, thug run neighborhood, so the simple minded, ‘it’s all good’ crowd goes to experience the ‘funky ambiance’ and gets shot. Romanticizing decay. Wonder if the victims enjoyed the funky street scene while they were bleeding on it?
Second line is a group of people who follow a main parade. Trailing behind, raising a ruckus. Now, in black neighborhoods primarily, any excuse to play music, drink and generally act stupid is good enough to get a mob parading down the street, collecting more people as they go. More sedate ‘second lines’ are done at parties and weddings, just a line of people dancing to music, carrying umbrellas or waving handkerchiefs. This is more like a spontaneous flash mob parading and getting larger as it goes. Black thugs with grudges find them very convenient for eliminating rivals. It happened on MLK day parade, it happens regularly- shootings like this are NOT ‘isolated incidents.”
It's sort of meandering dance similar to a conga line, but usually set to New Orleans jazz. The name comes from the history of the line typically forming in the wake of street parades.
What the hell y'all saying there boy :)
Thanks!
I think when they win golf championships, they’ll be called African American, but when they’re running away from shooting 19 people on Mothers’ day , they’ll be called “dark skinned”...
these second line parades sound like they could be very quaint cultural gems.....but then somebody has to go and ruin it....
I have the same question...going to Google to look it up...
...and I'm back with the answer (that I would not have looked up if you had not asked!)
Second line is a tradition in brass band parades in New Orleans, Louisiana. The "main line" or "first line" is the main section of the parade, or the members of the actual club with the parading permit as well as the brass band. Those who follow the band just to enjoy the music are called the "second line."
