BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) -- Baytown police were investigating a shooting at a convenience store Saturday.
The store at Alexander Food Store on North Alexander has been robbed before and it's why the clerk was prepared with a gun. Police say a confrontation between the gunman and a female store clerk around 11am ended with the alleged gunman in the hospital.
"We heard, 'Pow! Pow!'" witness Christina Odom said. "He just fell backwards like that."
Baytown police say a man in his 40s ran into the food mart, wearing a mask, brandishing a handgun and demanding money.
"The clerk, in fear for his life, pulled a weapon of his own, pointed it at the suspect and demanded him to drop his weapon. The suspect failed to do so and the clerk shot at least one time," Baytown Police Department Lt. Eric Freed said.
The suspect tried to get away, but police say he had been shot in the stomach. He collapsed on the concrete and was taken to the hospital.
"Too bad he didn't complete the job," customer BJ Keys said.

LOL
They sure must write these stories in a hurry and don’t edit them. The clerk in the second paragraph is identified as female. Then in the fourth paragraph she turns into a male.
The clerk, in fear for his life,
What dam gender was he/she?
the writer is probably trans gender and gets this gender stuff all confused. ha.
Yep, confused the heck out of me, too. Very sloppy writing. Par for the course when a gun is involved. Seems like reporters have permission to switch their brains off when writing such stories.
“The clerk, in fear for his life,
If you say anything, that is the phrase to say. Additionally, never and I me never say anything about finishing the job. “I was in fear of my life and shot the perp in self defense which “stopped” his aggression. That’s all I Have to say, please talk to my lawyer”.
It was clear that nothing was said by the homeowner. But the cop had the lingo down. Basically, "I was afraid for my life" which is why I would be justified in beating you soundly with my nightstick.
BJ Keys?
Gotta see some ID from that guy...
“you sure I’m the only one filming this little interaction, officer? How do you know my wife isn’t inside filming this, too?”
“If a cop was in the food mart at the time he probably would have blown away the perp...and the clerk.”
...and an assistance dog for good measure.
Hey, remember the latest thing is to be able to decide what gender you want to be. This female felt like a macho man after shooting the perp, so she wanted to be a male. At least for a while. I wonder how long she will decide to be a male.
“The clerk in the second paragraph is identified as female. Then in the fourth paragraph she turns into a male.”
Maybe the clerk was a tadpole or something...?
the writer is probably trans gender and gets this gender stuff all confused.
That goes hand in hand with:
The store at Alexander Food Store...
All that's bad enough, but I have a hunch editors have become an extinct species.
More TEXAS justice-—keep it up folks!

I’m with BJ.
“They sure must write these stories in a hurry and dont edit them. The clerk in the second paragraph is identified as female. Then in the fourth paragraph she turns into a male.”
Everything is cool. They/he/she/it didn’t want to be politically incorrect, so they threw in both genders. That, folks is the present day state of Jurinalism.
“What does it matter?”
