AEI scholar suggests Heritage Foundation lacks ‘integrity, loyalty, balls’ after Jason Richwine’s

American Enterprise Institute scholar Charles Murray suggested on Friday that former Heritage Foundation analyst Jason Richwine, whose doctoral dissertation at Harvard included evidence that Hispanic immigrants have lower IQs than non-Hispanic whites, had been railroaded and forced to resign by people without integrity or “balls.”

Quote: Jason Richwine, guilty of crimethink, "resigns." The bashing from the right has been as mindless as from the left. Thank God I was working for Chris DeMuth and AEI, not Jim DeMint and Heritage, when The Bell Curve was published. Integrity. Loyalty. Balls.

DeMuth was the president of AEI from 1986 to 2008. The Bell Curve, which examined issues relating to intellect, including race, was published in 1994. DeMint is the president of Heritage.

Don't hate me because I'm not ready to accept your superiority over me just because you happen to be white.

Facts are stubborn things and don't change just because we will them to do so. The assertion here is not that whites are superior to blacks but that on average, whites are smarter than blacks just as on average blacks are better runners than whites. All because of accidents of birth, in the same way that Great Danes are bigger than German Shepherds, but German Shepherds are smarter than Great Danes. On average, that is. From a practical standpoint, a black guy with a higher IQ than a white guy doesn't become dumber just because of the statistical average. It's just that when you pick out some random black guy, as well as some random white guy - the first is likely to be more athletic whereas the second is likely to have superior raw intelligence.

It's no different from how among whites, Jews punch way above their weight. The current research is pointing to a high degree of genetic determinism - to the point that DNA hard wiring is not only responsible for intelligence - it also sets out persistence, diligence, risk-taking tendencies, and so on, pretty much at conception. There are a lot of unknowns out there. Unfortunately, political correctness at home is squashing a lot of the funding for domestic research.

Well dude, you have lies, damn lies and statistics.
I will never place a limit on the most elastic object in the universe, the human mind. Telling people of their shortcomings will become a self-fulfilling prophecy

I once visited an old friend of mine, long ago departed, to help me with a Calculus problem. I had looked at this problem from every possible angle and had found no solution for it. As soon as I showed him the math problem he gave me a quick almost dismissive answer. I didn't get what he said and asked him to elaborate. He came back and said the text book author was sort of playing a trick and explained the solution at greater length. Still not understanding, I needed a clearer answer. He took out a paper and practically diagrammed the problem for me showing the effect of splitting the derivative and solving the whole thing in detail.
When he was done, the answer was so obvious, I struggled to remember what it was I had found so difficult.
This friend happened to live in poverty and yet must have been the most intelligent individual I have personally known.

If I don't give great importance to the results of I.Q. tests, please try to understand my experience.

Re: “AEI is okay with amnesty for alien invaders.”

I had no idea.

I Googled immigration at AEI’s website.

Every article is the same.

They all start with polite “reservations” about the Gang of Eight bill.

Then they suggest “improvements” that will make Amnesty harder to recognize and easier to swallow.

Pathetic.

Destroy America, destroy American Conservatism, all for the sake of cheaper and more compliant labor.

Exactly. BE VERY CAREFUL about these kinds of stories, they are often meant to divide and conquer, folks. I’m sure Heritage has it’s faults, but they are against amnesty, while AEI is an open borders org.

I promise not to argue the IQ issue with you.

But deeply disturbing “real life” statistics also exist.

In my mind, California is a fair proxy for the general quality of the millions of illegal Hispanic immigrants who might receive Amnesty.

In California:

The high school drop out rate for Hispanics is higher than Blacks.

The out of wedlock birth rate for Hispanics is higher than Blacks.

The incarceration rate for Hispanics is equal to Blacks.

Millions of California Hispanics have lived in America for two, three, even four generations.

And this is the outcome?

High IQ, equal IQ, or low IQ, why should America gamble any more resources on this ethnic group?

You make very clear you don’t understand the difference between statistical data about large groups and individual variation within those groups.

And what Richwine’s dissertation actually says is that relative IQ in part dictates culture. It’s an interesting read:

IQ and ‘test-taking’ is correlative and predictive of all sorts of socioeconomic outcomes.

Yes, that is difficult and often impolite to acknowledge in polite company, but we shouldn’t as a party or a nation censor academic or considered discussion thereof.

The Bell Curve is statistical representation of the disribution of properties, both physical and nonphysical. And statistical tools can be miss used as can guns be misused.

I don't think one can dispute the fact that in developing and developed eonomies and culturals the more intelligent, not necessarily educated, individuals will do better economically and financially. Of course, indiviual net worths will follow the Bell Curve, which, by the way,is also better known as the normal distribution curve.

One reason progress is impeded is that it has become politically incorrect to acknowledge the the truths revealed by statistical analysis. Many people might consider the fact that darker pigmented people are more immune to skin cancer. That is not to say darker skinned people are totally immune to skin cancer.

IQ tests, which I do not think are a true measure of intelligence but of knowledge retention, by the design are are normally distributed. Within the entire population there will be subsets which themselves have normal distributions. Rather than spending inordinate times disputing these distributions much more would be gained by determing how we could utilize the knowledge so revealed to improve of educational system for all. Political correctness is more distructive than any dictator could ever be.

It's like someone said - the left demands we have an open conversation on race - and then when the conversation starts they scream "racism".

Same here. I read “The Bell Curve” cover to cover including every footnote. There was absolutely nothing racist in the book. In fact, he bent over backward to explain that just because there were tendencies within a group, that did not say anything about a particular individual who belongs to the group.

Have we now defined racism as “a fact I don’t like?” That seems to be the case. A very sad state of affairs. Once we reach this point, and we start filtering which facts are acceptable (because they fit with the politically correct narrative), we have lost science and moved into mere opinion, wishful thinking, propaganda, and politics.

Thank you for your explanation; I admit to being predisposed to view the Bell Curve as sinister but I'm loath to impeding academic pursuits. I'm not a book burner or a leftist and don't believe in stifling debate.

statistical tools can be miss used as can guns be misused

This is where you'll find the main resistance; you need to come right up front and show where you're going with it; Heritage can simply not afford to open itself up to accusations of promoting a "Master Race" theory.

Rather than spending inordinate times disputing these distributions much more would be gained by determing how we could utilize the knowledge so revealed to improve of educational system for all. Political correctness is more distructive than any dictator could ever be.

This I can't argue with. If this really is the goal, I'm all in.

Precisely, and agreed.

The left would love nothing better than to race back to the Middle Ages and arrogate to itself the suffocating omnipresence of the Church, complete with book and heretic burnings.

..and, by the way, you lose.

OK,let me know (us know, actually) about your practical knowledge of the Third World but before doing so take a quick peek at my profile. It might give you at least a hint of what my experiences sound like.

Bottom line...you take a Brit of average intelligence (but who speaks no Spanish) and stick him in the slums of Guadalajara and five years later he'll be doing better...far,*far* better...than the typical wetback *from* Guadalajara does after five years in East LA.It comes down to native intelligence.

This is what happens when you hire a sellout to be your organization's president. Frankly I have never trusted Heritage to spend my money wisely.

Would you want to donate to a group which sends out glossy newsletters with pictures of its officers at swank white tie dinner parties, on your dollar? That's what Heritage did when I foolishly sent in a membership one year.

I guess it was supposed to impress me. Well, it did. But there are a lot of ways to be impressive.
