The biggest Benghazi-related story that took place outside of the House Oversight Committee's hearing room today is this item in Politico, regarding CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson. She's the reporter who famously drew White House officials' profane ire over her unapologetic pursuit of the Fast & Furious scandal story; now she's apparently facing searing criticism from another source: Her own bosses. Why? Because she's been covering the Benghazi story too aggressively. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you media bias:
"Attkisson, who holds a third-degree black belt in taekwondo, takes a fighting stance when she feels shes being stonewalled. Which is exactly what she thinks the White House has done to her on Benghazi," Farhi writes. But from where Attkisson is sitting, there are actually two Goliaths, one of which is almost entirely absent from the Post profile. The second Goliath is CBS News, which has grown increasingly frustrated with Attkisson's Benghazi campaign. CBS News executives see Attkisson wading dangerously close to advocacy on the issue, network sources have told POLITICO. Attkisson can't get some of her stories on the air, and is thus left feeling marginalized and underutilized. That, in part, is why Attkisson is in talks to leave CBS ahead of contract, as POLITICO reported in April. Farhi mentions "internal conflicts" in the final paragraph, though he seems to dismiss them. The "internal conflicts" are indeed real -- Attkisson is still eyeing an exit, according to sources -- and provide important context for today's piece. Today, CBS News is celebrating Attkisson's commitment to the Benghazi story. It's good press. But that support is an aberration.
"Dangerously close to advocacy"? That's how CBS News apparently views the work of a reporter who is doggedly seeking truth about an issue of enormous importance that many of her colleagues have scrupulously ignored. Remarkable. And as Ed Morrissey noticed, Attkisson's Twitter feed went curiously silent very early on during today's hearings. What happened? Allahpundit thinks he knows what's going on here, and I agree with him:
[The media establishment and liberals] cant stop conservative media from existing, but they can ghettoize it as illegitimate and partisan in a way that their own partisan garbage isnt....Skepticism about Benghazi is fine for the wingnuts at Fox, but bringing such unhelpful nonsense into an impartial, i.e. pro-Obama, outlet like CBS risks lending credence to the GOPs accusations. The proper line to take on Benghazi is to dismiss the new hearings with a sneer, a la Joe Klein, or, in the case of impartial news coverage, to dismiss them more lightly by referencing Hillarys long-ago whining about a vast right-wing conspiracy to discredit the Clintons. Going where the story leads is unhelpful to liberalism in this case, ergo its advocacy by definition.
Attkisson's reporting makes Benghazi harder to pigeonhole as a right-wing conspiratorial obsession. CBS News owns a(n unjustified) platinum reputation in lefty media circles, rendering one of their correspondent's tireless work on an unhelpful subject doubly unhelpful. Thus, the suits are marginalizing her and questioning her integrity, accusing her of walking dangerously close to the activism line. Shameful. I'll leave you with two other tweets that shed light on how much of the media will cover today's events:
Message one: Only out-of-touch old white guys and nutty conservatives care about this story. The Chick-fil-A reference was a dead giveaway, just in case the other descriptors were a little too subtle. Message two: Republicans are only beating the drum on Benghazi (you know, that unresolved terrorist attack that killed a sitting ambassador and three other Americans) to damage Hillary Clinton ahead of 2016. In other words, this is just another political food fight, America. Feel free to move along.
The mainstream media is corrupt
Ask CBS, why the outrage? Was CBS' president Benjamin Rhodes told to stand down on Benghazi by 0bama's advisor David Rhodes? YES THEY ARE BROTHERS.
Oooops. Benjamin Rhodes is 0bama’s advisor, and David Rhodes is President of CBS, and why am I the first to mention this here? LOL
From the article: “.......Message two: Republicans are only beating the drum on Benghazi (you know, that unresolved terrorist attack that killed a sitting ambassador and three other Americans) to damage Hillary Clinton ahead of 2016. In other words, this is just another political food fight, America......”
A great example of Liberal/Leftist projection if ever there was one. This quote above is exactly what they would do, therefore they accuse the Republicans as they would do. It’s what they know, what they perceive in their muddled truth impaired brains, and therefore how they think, thus they project onto others.
Have faith... the truth will destroy them.
LLS
Every stinkin’ piece of offal that works for the communist media—ALL OF THEM—deserve a snail mail postcard mailed to them with a LARGE message calling them complicit in this crime by their refusal to educate the public as to the testimony.
Same thing for John Boehner and the idiot commie dems that couldn’t seem to hang around long enough to hear everything being said at the hearing today.
Say it on a postcard so ALL can see the message.
At least with Watergate..NO ONE DIED..the media in this country is DEAD..they are no longer the media, out to seek the truth..they are all about protecting Obama..since Jan 2008 they have been protecting this man..because HIS agenda is THEIR agenda..what he wants, they want..if Obama came out and praised Hitler, the media would defend him, or just not report it..if Obama were a Republican this same media would have non stop coverage of what happened, investigating it, talking to the victims families and demanding that Obama be impeached..but since he’s a Communist Dem, they support him and could give a rats behind about those so brutally murdered
Yep.
The liberal media is Bath-House Barry’s “deodorant”.
According to Ed Morrissey at Hot Air, Ms. Attkisson was live tweeting the Benghazi hearings today, but mysteriously stopped tweeting after only 30 minutes of the hearing had elapsed.
Hope she isn’t found at Fort Marcy Park, as Vince Foster was.
Bob Beckel, Juan Williams, and Alan Colmes
A$$ Hats listed in assending order.
That's choice, but then, they would know...
Other way around
Ben Rhodes
The Obama administrations rapidly unravelling narrative about what happened at the U.S. consulate in Libyas second-largest city may have been cooked up by creative writer Ben Rhodes, the presidents 30-something Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications and Speechwriting.
Ben Rhodes also wrote Obama's Cairo speech.
Kudos to Sharyl. Too early for nominations?
Surely, you jest. I'm very surprised he hasn't hired Keith Olbermann by now.
I flipped over to CNN today during the hearings, because Fox switched to the story of some lady who killed her boyfriend, and CNN was discussing the hearings...
"...the Republicans are clearly determined in these hearings to damage both President Obama and presumptive candidate for President, Hillary Clinton..."
That wasn't an opinion guy either, but the "reporter" coming to you live from the hearings.
What's the frequency, Kenneth?
Palin would look smashing with a similar hairstyle.
bkmk
Time for Sharyl to suck it up and earn a Pulitzer, no matter what the personal cost.
