U.S. Will ‘Shortly’ Be Arming Syrian Rebels: Key Senator

The United States will "shortly" begin arming Syrian rebels, looking to boost moderate factions over al Qaida-affiliated extremists whose rise would be a national security "nightmare," the top Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee told CBS News on Tuesday.

The rebels are not freedom-lovers of any kind. Most of what is going on is internecine religious fighting between Alawites, of which Assad is a member, an off shoot of Sh'ite Iran, making them natural allies. Alawites govern Syria despite only comprising 5% of the Syrian population. The Sunnis of Lebanon are bent on revenge against Syria and Iran for the way they've taken over their country, other misdeeds, crimes. Nothing good will come of this. The term 'Moderate factions' is a joke, moderate depending on who you compare them to. As in the rest of the 'Arab Spring' countries, extremists will soon be running Syria.

Senator, the United States was already arming the New Syrian Army with ex-Libyan weapons shipped out of Benghazi by the CIA to Turkey to arm the NSA.
