The US Senate on Monday passed a bill aimed at ending tax-free shopping on the internet but the move looks set to face fierce opposition before it becomes law.
The Marketplace Fairness Act, which has cross-party supporter and the backing of powerful retailers, would give states the power to require retailers with sales over $1m to collect state and local sales taxes for online purchases.

[[The Marketplace Fairness Act]]
Whenever you see the wordf fairness- you know you are abotu to get screwed so that someoe else can profiut off your losses
This is already law in NY- even buying from companies in other states liek amazon NY’ers have to pay sales tax
Oh, you think that you live in a democracy (republic) that respects the Constitution. How naive.
I thought that all tax bills were SUPPOSED to originate in the House? How does the Senate have a hand in this?
Only conservatives have to work to pay a sales tax. Liberals get EBT cards and other handouts they don’t have to work for, so why should they care?

[[How can this be constitutional when long ago mail order sales across state lines were ruled exempt under the Commerce Clause?]]
Because now the Supreme court has given the gubmint unfettered control of what it wantrs to tax and force peopel to buy ignoring previous precedence set forth by the courts
This bill is pure evil. Anyone with a business knows how sadistic government bureaucrats can be.
Many states will become rabid "fishing" for money by badgering companies without justification.
Government spending at all levels in insanely out of control.
State Power is crushing our Liberties and our future.
Wrong. This bill is being pushed strongly by Bezos (leftist head of Amazon) and Wal-Mart. eBay strongly opposes this bill.
I have purchased many items from Amazon. The minute they start collecting taxes I will see smaller sellers, even if I have to pay more.
Amazon is extremely anti-capitalistic with the support of this bill.
I despise crony-capitalist as much as I despise unconstitutional government.
Stabenow and Levin. They suck. Again.
You are quite correct. The far-left Bezos of Amazon is pushing this monstrosity. He wants to rake in big dollars on providing a service for businesses to help process sales taxes.
All this evil bill will allow is for more efficient private capital to be turned over to out of control governments to utterly waste.
I will never buy another item from Amazon if this gets through the House.
do you trust boner to kill it, or ensureit doesn’t get passed?
i truly do not.
Bad reporting...it doesn’t overturn the Quill decision, it complies with it.
The ignorance among reporters is endemic.
Because in that decision the Supremes specifically said Congress was free to authorize interstate sales tax collection if they so desired.
The decision only forbade the states from acting unilaterally without the express permission of Congress.
The only way to end this ____, is to never allow a public employee, or a reciever of government benefits (ie. food stamps, etc.,) to vote. And should have been done long ago.

And put one of these fine folks in his place: |

well, in this case, that doesn’t apply - they aren’t raising Federal taxes but rather passing a statute to allow states to collect taxes on online sales across state lines.
Right...very odd to see Sessions on there, but Murkowski on the other list.
