Ricardo Portillo, 46, of Salt Lake City passed away at the hospital, where he was being treated following an assault, Unified police spokesman Justin Hoyal said.

Police have accused a 17-year-old player in a recreational soccer league of punching Portillo after the man called a foul on him and issued him a yellow card. "The suspect was close to Portillo and punched him once in the face as a result of the call," Hoyal said in a press release.

He said an autopsy is planned. No cause of death was released.

I think the cause of death, was a blow to the head.

I think here in Wisconsin, at age 17 he would be treated as an “adult” and be subject to facing the music for his actions.

It’s time to outlaw fists. They can be deadly weapons in the wrong hands:

What gets me is the little thug left, very possibly knowing that his victim was vomiting blood on the ground. I hope he gets the snot beat out of him in jail, I really do.

Pretty sure the kid grew up playing soccer where EVERYBODY gets a trophy. That attitude spells disaster. As long as EVERYBODY is a winner, kids won’t learn to deal with losing. Also it doesn’t provide any incentive to do better. I guess it’s just the kiddie version of spreading the wealth. Pretty disgusting but that’s what it’s come to since we don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings. Thank you radical left wing extremist demokkkrat scumbag socialists. Here’s a trophy for you.

How about outlawing soccer? The proximate cause was a game.

I thought you weren’t allowed to use your hands in soccer.

Gee a 17 year old boy hit a man hard enough to kill him.

Yet we have poor little 17 year old Trayvon beating Zimmerman and everyone wonders why Zimmerman shot him.

This would have been Zimmerman if not for he gun.

Every media report on Trayvon Martin refers to him as an “unarmed” 17 year old — as if fists are not weapons.

Look at what “unarmed” 17 year olds with fists are able to do to other people’s heads.

But, but the poor little boy was unarmed, just like St. Trayvon of the Skittles, who was also 17.

“17 year old boy” = 6 foot +, 250 pounds in many cases.

Hope his nickname soon will be “buttboy”, the worthless little creep.

This is more than sad.

I've been to lots of school age sporting events in recent years, and have been disturbed at the level of aggressiveness, not on the field, but among the parents in the stands. At one such event there were parents from a town where medium income was less than the town the other team was from. Before the game comments were made about “Land Rover's in the parking lot”, and during the game some parents got so unhinged that the police were called.

My point is that I doubt this 17 year old was displaying this type of behavior in a sporting event for the first time. I realize this is just supposition, but IMHO this kid never learned sportsmanship or the relative importance of a game vs. being a good person. Bad sportsmanship should never be tolerated, and good sportsmanship should be the number one lesson learned from early participation in sports, along with learning good fundamentals of whatever game is being played. When even the parents are inflating the importance of a game, the message becomes a bad one. I'm not saying that was at play in this particular instance, but it is definitely a problem.

“... this kid never learned sportsmanship..”

Agreed. I’m putting the entire blame on the 17 year old BUT I do wonder about his coach(es). My son and daughter’s coaches emphasize OVER and OVER to never hit a ref and to simply walk away. No matter what the call, no matter what the deed... if they so much as say something nasty to the ref.. they are off the team. It’s a matter of teaching and enforcing self control (at times... in very difficult situations).

The game of soccer must be outlawed forever! It teaches lawlessness and violence and must be tremoved from our shores once and for all. And no one watches it anyway.

I'm interested in the unreported ethnic issues.

The referee was Hispanic.

He spoke Spanish to the EMT’s and others had to translate for him.

Presumably the young murderer was also Hispanic.

But, after reading the headline, my first instinct was Black on white violence, with the murderer pleading the “N-word” legal defense.

Utah - which will come as a surprise to many - has pretty much become an open border illegal immigrant Sanctuary.

The Mormon Church views this partly as an international relations scheme so their Missionaries won't be blocked or harassed in Latin America.

And the Utah Chamber of Congress, as expected, is completely on board with this policy.

Political tension in Utah on this issue is very strong and just below the surface.
