The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after a Volusia County deputy shot a woman in the shoulder outside her Volusia County home Thursday evening.
The deputy was dispatched to the home on Eloise Circle near Ormond Beach about 6:10 when a woman called and reported that someone was trying to break into her house, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
When deputies arrived, a woman was outside pointing something that "appeared to be a weapon" at them, sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said. Deputy Omar Bello, 28, fired a single shot.
Deputies think the woman who was shot is the same woman who called 911, they said. No intruder was found.
The woman, whose name was not released, was being treated at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Property records show a 61-year-old woman owns the house.

Silly Omar.
Couldn’t accurately shoot the dog?
The cop’s pistol could range from 9 millimeter to .357 magnum. Plus he’s probably using hollow point or something even more lethal.
maybe he thought she was a dog?
Barney !!....I have told you time and time again.....
Or maybe it was a hose. Or a cell phone. Or a curling iron. Or a duck.
Oh just shoot her and we'll sort it out later.

Was it a pop tart shaped like a gun....?
Those suckers are deadly....
Obviously, these deputies are products of the public skroool system, taught well that fingers in a gun configuration are, in skrool, something deadly to suspend over, and in adult life, something deadly to shoot over.
Couldn’t he see the light coming out of her flashlight? Flashlight? Just a guess. Maybe it was a frying pan.
It can't be dark these days at 6:10pm in Florida. Did officer Omar forgot his prescription eyeglasses at home? How else could he not see clearly what, if anything, a woman is pointing at him just five or ten yards away?
Besides, if someone points a gun at you, the most reasonable reaction should be to take cover. Even if you can defeat one threat, how many other people with guns may be in the house? You do not know; it could be full of drug dealers taking delivery. You take cover and proceed from there. The "gun" could be a duck, after all.
She was probably waving her cell phone.
That’s why you should shoot your own burglars. Then call the cops to haul away the remains. Make sure the dog is anesthetized. Don’t know how to make sure they don’t shoot you when you answer the door. Not matter what you do, they might shoot you. Hands in the air? She was reaching up for a weapon. Hands behind your head? She was reaching for a weapon hidden in her hair. Laying on the ground? She was digging in the ground for a hidden weapon.
You see, no one really needs to own a gun for protection. The cops will come to your rescue instead.
Only if you eat them. They can back you up.
They can also pop up from the toaster and hit you in the eye.
That’ll teach her not to have a dog
Depuity, Why did you shoot her in the sholder?
Well sir> I was aiming for her head, and her hump got in the way...
bump
Exactly. Those cops have super special secret training, even though they are the same slightly dim C students you knew in high school who were, um, ‘diverted’ into a law enforcement program.
When police are frightened, anyone in the area is endangered. They will shoot first and ask questions later.
Even worse after the first shot is fired they might get into the pack syndrome, and all open fire.
