Chinese incursion leaves India on verge of crisis
Associated Press ^ | May 2, 2013 5:50 AM EDT | Nirmala George

The platoon of Chinese soldiers slipped across the boundary into India in the middle of the night, according to Indian officials. They were ferried across the bitterly cold moonscape in Chinese army vehicles, then got out to traverse a dry creek bed with a helicopter hovering overhead for protection.

They finally reached their destination and pitched a tent in the barren Depsang Valley in the Ladakh region, a symbolic claim of sovereignty deep inside Indian-held territory. So stealthy was the operation that India did not discover the incursion until a day later, Indian officials said.

China denies any incursion, but Indian officials say that for two weeks, the soldiers have refused to move back over the so-called Line of Actual Control that divides Indian-ruled territory from Chinese-run land, leaving the government on the verge of a crisis with its powerful northeastern neighbor.

Indian officials fear that if they react with force, the face-off could escalate into a battle with the powerful People’s Liberation Army. But doing nothing would leave a Chinese outpost deep in territory India has ruled since independence. …

Congrats, Nixon. This is the legacy of US liberalism. The PLA would not be so powerful without US trade.

A huge mob of diplomats—spurred by very special investor/corporate constituents—from our western governments are probably already trying to threaten India into letting the Chinese army have that real estate, and there have been several similar incursions into eastern and northern India over the past decade or so.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Thursday that Chinese troops had been carrying out normal patrols and had not crossed the boundary.

Pretty simple, announce a "live fire practice" at the GPS coords of the platoon. If it's on the Indian side, how can the Chinese object?

Offer them wine, women and song in exchange for getting back across the border.

They will be gone by morning.

Don’t blame Nixon, blame Bush the elder, Bill Clinton, George Bush the younger and Barack Obama. China helped defeat the Soviet Union in the Cold War. After the Cold War these folks decided to keep building China up long after the threat to her neighbors and the US was evident.

China didn’t help “defeat” the USSR. Besides, the USSR is on its way back under Putin in a slightly different form (Putin calls it the “Eurasian Union”). China was never an ally in that fight; they merely took advantage so that they could become the vanguard power spreading world communism. Look at what their influence did to us. Mr. EPA/Amtrak/OSHA/Wage-and-price-control Nixon started that ball rolling.

I've seen quite a few other news stories since 2000 about other incursions into India from China and also noticed mentions of other occurrences in the article behind the link above this thread, too. You might have a look.
