SACRAMENTO -- Los Angeles Roman Catholic Archbishop Jose Gomez and several other Catholic Church officials in California took time from their retreat in Sacramento on Wednesday to make a push for Congress to keep up the momentum on changes to the countrys immigration laws.
In a gaggle with reporters, Gomez said reform of the countrys immigration laws is long overdue.
Gomez, who was joined by San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, as well as several bishops from around the state, urged Congress not to delay in passing a bill, saying the bipartisan package of legislation that has come together offers hope for keeping immigrant families together.
It is not about politics for us, Gomez said. It is about people. It is about human rights and human dignity.
The church officials urged Congress not to put off the effort following the bombings in Boston in which the suspects were immigrants. We believe the immigration reform should continue, Cordileone said. This is the right moment . We should not allow a tragedy to derail the effort.

Thousands call for immigration reform in Los Angeles May Day march
By Alex Dobuzinskis - Reuters - 5-1-2013
"The march was believed to be the largest of more than a dozen similar demonstrations planned in cities across California by a coalition of organized labor activists, students, civil rights advocates and members of the clergy."

International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, is a celebration of the international labour movement. May 1 is a national holiday in more than 80 countries and celebrated unofficially in many other countries. May Day has long been a focal point for demonstrations by various socialist, communist and anarchist groups commemorating the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_Day#International_Workers.27_Day
Huh? Cesar Chavez was opposed illegals coming into the country.
Why? Because they stole jobs from native-born migrant farm workers. What a crock of caca.
Did you know that Chavez was a fervent Catholic? Odd. You would think that with his politicking he would have discarded his faith. So many “leaders” seem to do so.
Back last year when Obama set his ‘free birth control’ trap and the House GOP acted sure that opposing it was an easy win (really stupid) and many here followed them I was warning that the Catholic Church was hardly an ally of conservatives. Two days later the church leaders attacked the House GOP for attacking the poor.
After ammnesty they will demand more tax $$$ for those Dreamers.
Ironic that an Illegal Alien Rights group.....supposedly protesting during International labor day..want to push for a program that takes away jobs from American citizens
Commies are such hypocrites
The Illegal Alien/Islamic Terrorist Amnesty Bill needs to be killed, now.
Sorry Gomie. For me, it's about my country and my tax dollars. Go talk that "human rights and human dignity" crap to the Mexican government.
This gargantuan push for “immigration reform” is a smokescreen for the real agenda. We are in a war, and America is losing. “Immigration reform” will lead to a takeover without violence of lands that militant mexicans believe belongs to them.
Somebody needs to tell the AB, “This is NOT a charity event!”
The government wants to EXPLOIT THESE PEOPLE FOR SLAVE WAGES!
The AB seems to think he can make the “fair wage” argument later.
Well, the laws of supply and demand just don’t respect your fairytale world.
Furthermore, the Obama communists want to use this dependent voting block TO DESTROY YOUR FREEDOMS.......AND FIRST UP IS YOUR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM!!!!
Protesters Question Clergyman’s Loyalty
At Archbishop Jose Gomez Residence
Dozens of protesters have shown up at Archbishop of Los Angelus Jose Gomez residence many carrying American flags and bearing signs questioning his loyalty to the US not Mexico along with many signs demanding equal rights for American citizens in Mexico.
The protest was apparently triggered by the clerics decision to push forward with his predecessors decision the disgraced Cardinal Mahoney with offering amnesty thus citizenship to Mexicans crossing the border illegally while thousands of Americans in Mexico suffer under 2nd class citizenship unable to own property and suffer indignitys let alone participate in Mexican elections while living there in Mexico.
A spokeswoman for the group, Harriet Hildegarden insisted her group consists of Catholics loyal to the church. “We will be protesting at other locations where prominent clergy of the church have sided with the Obama regime”Hildy” claims the church is supporting the democrat party which denied God at their convention and declared what she claims is war on the Catholics but would collude with it on many issues including “amnesty” .
When asked if she may be denied communion for her activities her reply was “Well it’s been known that when that happens quicker when clerics get personally attacked than when some politican challanges the church on the grounds of faith and morals” . You didn’t hear much from them (the bishops) about the Gosnell baby murderer trial. Now that it’s winding up perhaps the bishops might call a “conference” next year, but they sure acted swiftly when it comes to allowing this country resigning its soverign rights new parishioners.

We are talking about more butts in the pews giving their tithes. I'll tell you what. Lets add to the immigration bill that the Catholic Church will pay 30% property tax to off set the cost of the illegal immigrants and see how that goes over.
Mr. Gomez is a Mexican citizen who I believe may have naturalized as an American (with his fingers crossed behind his back when he swore the oath) or is here on a Lawful Permanent Resident visa.
He has no business referring to “us” when referring to the American nation. His attachment to our nation is of the thinnest thread.
“Honor the legacy of Cesar Chavez”?
IIRC my mom (devout Catholic) told me good things about this Archbishop. Oops.
Hispanics and other aliens and immigrants vote PRO-ABORTION.
Archbishop Gomez needs to be asked why he wants MORE PRO-ABORTION VOTERS in the U.S.
If we don’t end abortion soon, and get rid of the evil people in public office who support it, we will not have a country much longer.
If amnesty passes, nothing is going to matter here in about 10 years.
