Like previous campaigns criticizing other Confederate Memorials, he sees the petition to remove the carving of Jefferson, Lee and Jackson as an attack on the truth.

That is correct! How long before the New Egyptians destroy the Pyramids and the Spinx. Then the Liberals will want to destroy most of the monuments in DC dedicated to the Racist Founding Fathers. It is sick.
Southerners have class.
What about the engraved stone features in South Davota known as Mount Rushmore, and the one of some Native American Chief (just cannot remember the name right now). So lets see Vicksburg Battlefield Site in Vicksburg, MS does that have to go to. The USS Constitution has to go to because it is offensive to the British.
History has a significance for us yet today. Without the knowledge of our historical past we are bound to repeat the same stupidity of misguided individuals whom are ahistorical.
So lets get rid of Arlington National Cemetery because that was General Robert E. Lee estate. The feds seized his land and estate because of the war between the States. so because of hatred of what happened in the South years ago, we should destroy it.
No way. look what is happening around Gettysburg National Battlefield - the land is becoming commercialized, and in time the way it is going Gettysburg will just be a roadside Plaque.
people just don’t want parks renamed, schools renamed, and mountains of art gone.
This is history and even Grant and Lincoln had more respect for the south than these bozo’s today.
A small group of Yankees moved to Jacksonville and wanted to change the schools name from a confederate General.
The school is a black school and these yanks thought that by living here and changing black schools they would win.
Nearly every black kid in that school wanted to keep the name of the school and the idiots who wanted to change the name could not understand why blacks do not care about the confederate flag or the Generals who served.
hell they get more confused when blacks have a confederate flag down here LOL
my favourite General of all time and yes I wrote favourite as that is how they spelled words like that back then it was changed when yankee teachers came south and told the south to change spelling
I had ancestors who fought on both sides of the war. Eventually, my Union ancestor soldier’s great-grandaughter married my Rebel ancestor soldier’s grandson. (They were my grandparents.)
I say leave it alone. I don’t care who is offended.
Some day, just you wait and see, the PC crowd will start talking about removing Washington from Mount Rushmore because he was slave owner.
Leave the memorial alone I say, and I’m a yank.
I went to Jefferson Davis Jr High, would have gone to Nathan Bedford Forrest HS, had we not moved from Jax...
All my people were Yankees and fought in Illinois Regiments. Leave the monument alone it depicts a vital portion of who we are. What is lost today is the concept of the noble enemy to many that is what the men on the monument were.
And it is not just an attempt to erase history but to destroy a work of art by Gutzon Borglum as well.
Thanks for Voting!
Q: Should they change the carving on Stone Mountain?
No
95.1%
Yes
4.9%
You really have to wonder about that 4.9%.
This reads like a run~of~the~mill high school essay.
I toured the park with my family while the carving was still in progress. I believe it was in 1964. They had the railroad, and the tram running, and an observation facility on top. And if you were daring enough there was part of the scaffolding you could climb down the face on and (almost) view the workmen.
I doubt if OSHA would ever allow that these days.
The relief was impressive even in its unfinished state.
“I think the opposition to this monument is racist. It isnt enough for some blacks to get equality, they want revenge.”
That’s what is happening in Memphis right now, with three small parks
Let’s instead erase the Talibs among us.
Stop with the negative comments. This has been a good thread thus far.
My great-grandfather fought in the 36th Virginia and was captured by the Yanks in 1862. I have his papers where he wrote about his capture and he spelled his words like that.
I find it humorous that folks complaining about slave owners ALL walk around with pictures of slave owners in their wallets.
