Former GOP vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., now supports the rights of gay Americans to adopt children, though he still believes marriage is between a man and a woman.
In a town hall meeting with constituents in Wisconsin on Monday, the House Budget Committee chairman said he has changed his mind on the adoption issue, even though his opinions on other aspects of gay rights have remained unchanged. To date, two Republican senators Rob Portman of Ohio, who had been in the mix for Mitt Romneys No. 2 spot, and Mark S. Kirk of Illinois have come out in support of gay marriage.
Adoption, Id vote differently these days. That was I think a vote I took in my first term, 1999 or 2000. I do believe that if there are children who are orphans who do not have a loving person or couple, I think if a person wants to love and raise a child they ought to be able to do that. Period, Ryan said in a video posted by the liberal website Think Progress. I would vote that way. I do believe marriage is between a man and a woman, we just respectfully disagree on that issue.
Ryans move to support gay adoption is a particularly interesting one, given his continued national ambitions and Portmans reversal on gay marriage. Portman announced in March that his college-aged son, Will, is gay and that he could no longer oppose marriage equality.
In the past, Ryan has opposed almost every equality measure, getting a 0″ on the Human Rights Campaigns most recent Congressional scorecard. He opposed the repeal of dont ask, dont tell, supported the Defense of Marriage Act and voted against the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Protection Act, which expanded federal hate crime laws to protect the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
In his remarks Monday, Ryan said he has always supported civil unions. Though there is no evidence to support that, its a clear sign that the politics of the issue have changed and that even the most conservative Republicans need to appear more hospitable to gays and lesbians in order to expand their voting bloc.
Ive always supported things like civil unions where you ought to be granted certain legal privileges to be able to have benefits whether its estate planning benefits or visitation and things like that, Ryan said.
But a story published by The Advocate, a gay and lesbian news magazine, when Romney named Ryan to his ticket, noted that Ryan supported a Wisconsin-based ban on gay marriage and civil unions in 2006.
Reviews of Ryans record indicate that he has voted overwhelmingly against LGBT rights. He voted twice for the federal constitutional amendment against same-sex marriage, and supported the ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions approved by Wisconsin voters in 2006. Ryan voted against dont ask, dont tell repeal and hate crimes legislation, but he voted for the Employment Non-discrimination Act in 2007, when it included protections for sexual orientation but not gender identity, the report said.
You don't read very well, I said "explain your support for the homosexual agenda.".
Why do you want homosexuals adopting children?
You are a social liberal, meaning that you are not a conservative or as your post reveals, you disparage conservatism, just like a good liberal, homosexual aqenda supporting fellow would.
Homosexual adoption is WORSE than same sex “marriage.” Innocent children are placed into unwholesome situations where they can and do become the playthings of overt deviants. There have been scores of cases of child molestation carried out by homosexual “parents.” They are usually covered up by a news media completely in the hands of the sexual deviants. I would not vote for Ryan for dogcatcher. What a vile selfish bastard. Who would be so low as to sacrifice innocent kids for a political career?
Stick a fork in him (I never liked the guy for personal reasons anyway).
Screw you Paul
All right-minded persons disagree.
I believe that to be correct. And I believe there would be more if there were not so many difficulties in the process. We found private adoption to be quite expensive and I was frankly repulsed when I learned of so-called open adoption.
That is when the birth mother maintains contact, including even visits with the child. As to foster parenting, we went to one prep class on that and fled. Some folks may be OK with opening all their business to the state. I was not.
Maybe you don't know that the site owner is quite intolerant of posters who promote the homo agenda in any shape, manner or form. I see you have been on the board for a while. Are you unaware of this fact, or are you just stupid?
I sit here with my Beiber shirley stuuned. Other than GFY I really don’t know what else to say to this guy. I mean when you go on the furthest right of all conservative sites, make an argument that gay adoption is a desirable thing under ANY circumstance and claim such insanity ‘wins’ anything but the scorn so many here rightly heaped on him...
What else is there to say? I mean, ‘The stupid, it burns’ simply isn’t up to the task.
bkmk
Huh?
Nevermind. I brainlocked...
There is ALWAYS an alternative. With all due respect to Little Jeremiah, even a poorly run orphanage is better than placing a child in a home with sexual perverts. Being raised by wolves is better than being adopted by homosexuals.
If the 'homosexuals' cared for the child they would not expose the child to their perversion. ANY exposure of children to homosexual behavior is child abuse.
Join the club. I've been a member since after 2008. Could not vote for Romney/Ryan, even in the face of another Obama regime.
I really don't think Ryan helped the ticket much last year. Conscientious people knew he was a RINO under his thin veneer.
It will be a very short jump, and a very short time, until he supports sodomite “marriage,” mark my words.

If there has ever been a time for whoever his bishop is to call this bastard out publicly, it needs to be done now. He is causing great scandal in the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church absolutely does not condone children being raised by sodomites, and also does not condone “civil unions”.
This asshole Ryan needs either get right with the Catholic Church, or quit calling himself Catholic, or become a democrat, which is probably the best idea.
“even a poorly run orphanage is better “
So John even a poorly run orphanage full of sexual perverts is better a couple of responsible adults.
You guys are sick puppies.... and sad ones that will condemn a human being to a life of misery so you can stand on your morals...gross
“Maybe you don’t know that the site owner is quite intolerant of posters who promote the homo agenda in any shape, manner or form.”
you’re an idiot - I’m not promoting any such agenda. My argument is with your interpretation of Ryan’s comment. The fact that you do not have the intellectual strength to see that amazes me.
And when a poster says GFY it simply means that they have nothing more to say other than curse words.
So Don go read the posts I wrote and quit echoing ridiculous sentiments.... and try to talk to me.
No point in doing anything byt swearing at someone so stupid as to fight for the idea that homosexual adoption is a good idea in any circumstance. Allow me to introduce you to my feline friends.
“an orphanage if well run would be better, a group home if well run would be better.”
Then you agree that IF an alternative exists it would be better - which is what I said. (you have alot of “if”s in your sentence)
But IF the alternative doesn’t exist - then what ? That was Ryan’s point.
Now a previous poster argues that an alternative always exists, and if you buy that (and I’d like to) then it really doesn’t matter, because the alternative will always win out over the homosexual couple.
