Mexican Shoppers Brings Millions Into San Marcos (TX)
KEYE tv ^ | April 26, 2013 | Fred Cantu

An analysis of credit card receipts finds Mexican shoppers spent $150 million dollars in Hays County last year. Their shopping trips generated $12 million in sales tax revenue and jobs throughout the community. Juan Carlos is general manager of the Tanger Outlet Center in San Marcos. He says, "Traditionally we have seen a lot of Mexican national shoppers during appropriate seasons: Tres Reyes, Semana Santa. Those types of weeks are definitely big weeks for us."

San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero says the visitors' spending spree extends beyond the outlet malls. He adds, "At the same time they get to stop by our restaurants, visit downtown, see all the beautiful natural features of San Marcos, our river, our green spaces, our university."

Such a warm and fuzzy article. Of course, none forget to go back to Mexico.

This Texas taxpayer can't afford the Outlet Mall.

It’s lovely getting shoved around and treated like an invisible person in San Marcos. Especially in front of our kids who have to watch classmates taking scholarship money for being non white speeding off at carline in a shiny Escalade.

It’s greater when at sunday service the priest calls us gringos. That’s a little tough to explain to the kids, but, hey, As long as there’s lots of money coming in for our royal politicians, what difference does the Constitution or the health and well being of their constituents mean?

I’m a little suspicious of this article. It’s not as though Guerrero would be lying or anything but I see these “weekend shoppers from Mexico” at the Walmart where I shop all of the time. There always seems to be a guy in charge who pays for the purchases from a huge wad of 100 dollar bills. I’ve never seen one use a credit card. I think he’s talking about EBT cards.

I read somewhere that a lot of wealthy people from Mexico come to the US legally and buy homes and live here. They do it for education of their children and to get away from the gangs etc. in Mexico. I think what I read was about The Woodlands but don’t remember for sure. So to some extent those would be some that maybe buying as described.

Found It:

All that discressionary spending money.

Maybe its time for our illegals to reconsider their decision to relocate el Norte with its 8%+ unemployment rate.

Head back south gang - the water is just fine.

Oh well, by all means, let’s give amnesty to every illegal alien in the country, so the San Marcos outlet mall can make money.

I remember when articles used to talk about all the money USA tourists spent in Mexico. The difference is we weren’t DRUG CARTELS, ‘cause that’s the only people from Mexico who have any money!

Stop patronizing that particular organization.

I stopped in 1970.

Just recycling some of their discretionary money.
That’s money made available by the welfare, food stamps and other taxpayer freebies they scam.

One wonders what *else* Mexicans might be bringing in San Marcos & vicinity.Could anyone with an active imagination...or anyone who might be familiar with the area...let me know if my curiosity constitutes xenophobia or is based on reality?

This is not a happy article. I live just outside of San Antonio (Mexico, USA) and am routinely disgusted by the news anchors at Channel 4, WOAI-TV who regularly invite Mexicans to move to San Antonio and bring their “businesses” so that they and their families can be “safe” from the drug cartels.

Meanwhile, no one in San Antonio can figure out why it leads the state in DWI deaths and DWI arrests and why the murder rate is so high, even though they know that the city has LOTS of Mexican gang and drug cartel members living there.

Obviously, it must be caused by all the mutant Ninja Turtle Power Hero Rangers living in the city!!

San Marcos is not even on the border; it is more than 200 miles from Mexico. Mexicans would have to go through San Antonio to get there.

It’s NOT the organization, it’s the misguided people in it.

The same thing that’s happening in govt which is not adhering to the rules

I just sent a letter to the hierarchy copying it to the local priest, reminding them to check their book of rules It states that the church must assist its countries in maintaining their for economic sovereignty in order to preserve its health allow its citizens to practice religion in freedom.

Social justice begins at home. That’s not my idea it comes fro the book of rules.

I did also tell them that, though I survived the onslaught of liberalism’s attack on the church, and remained loyal and defending of them/it, after finding out they took our money and sent it to illegal aliens’ causes, I would not be contributing to that any longer, so no $ until they change that deal.

They’re not telling you what’s going on in San Antonio. The wimpy San Antonians are bustling around apologizing for not speaking spanish. The military there are so used to following along with this crap the voters have dumped on them they just shuffle along, but they pay out of state tuition if they retire and have to wait two years to switch residency from a random home state to Texas and Perry boy, so used to giving to everyone but those he takes for granted like the others, gives foreigners, Mexicans , in state tuition.

That is what I recently told my fiend. She went to Walmart to buy 36 inch tv and came home telling me about all the Mexicans buying only the huge tv’s. She said....I thought no one had any money. I explained to her that if you are collecting cash, food stamps, Medi-Cal, WIC etc on all your American born kids you have plenty of cash to just spend.
I recently saw the same thing at Burlington. I was the only gringo in line and I had 2 tops off the clearance rack. The Mexican women in line were dressed quite fashionably and had baskets full of clothes, handbags, shoes and jewelry.

And most of this money was earned under the table in the US and sent to Mexico by illegals. Had that same money been paid to Americans it still would have been spent in TX and still would have generated sales taxes and it would have employed Americans who are now on unemployment.

Several years ago took my grandsons to Fiesta Texas for the day. Never ever again. I do think we were the only three Caucasians in the place and I know we were the only three in the wave pool with bathing suits on, everyone else had on their street clothes.

Last summer our local neighborhood pool had a couple of Hispanic mothers and babies in the pool. Moms had street clothes on and babies were in regular cloth diapers with no swimmies or plastic covers on their diapers. Talked to the lifeguard and he booted them out. Had to repeat on several occasions before I went to a Board meeting and brought the issue up. So now we have signs at the entrance about appropriate swim attire and swimmies for babies. Pool has been open on the weekends since April 1st and thus far no Hispanics but just people wanting to swim in the lap pool but it’s early yet.
