Sam Cooke had written and recorded this song almost 15 years earlier, and now Dr. Hook got a hit out of it. It came in at #6 this week.

Disco was the bane of my life, and I was glad to see it go. Every so often though, a Disco number popped up with an infectious tune to go along with that constant bass line. This came in at #4 this week.

Remember the Beatles? Paul McCartneys first backup band? Paul now had a new band, and he would play a role in this era as he did in the Sixties, although the role would be a lot less revolutionary. He didnt have John Lennons cynicism or mordant sense of humor, which meant that the Smiling Beatle would smile all through this era. This song pretty much defines what he was about. It came in at #24 on its way to #1.

The first time I heard the lyrics to this song, I thought it was a sex instruction manual set to music. Then I discovered it was about dancing. Or was it?
It came from an era when a girl would go to a club, drink and dance with a guy, take him home, give him the thrill of his life, and then throw him out on the street in the morning. It was the Age of Disposable Relationships. See what I missed by avoiding Disco?
It came in at #1 this week, and this video is from Soul Train.

And so we end one week of music history 37 years ago. See you tomorrow night! Cue the Rockumentary theme!
