Fox News: Does line-of-sight detonation method suggest third marathon bomber? [video]
Twitchy ^

Fox News’ Catherine Herridge is reporting today that the FBI has not ruled out the possibility of a third party involved in the Boston Marathon terrorist bombing. Evidence that the two bombs were detonated not by a cell phone but by parts ripped from a toy car remote control suggest that whoever triggered the explosions had to have been in the line of sight of the bombs.

One of the bombs was placed on the ‘race side’ of the crowd fence which mean the guy with the switch would be on the opposite side of the race course. If the line-of-sight requirement then there is Atleast one more terrorist

Hamza’s hidden hand, which was burned after being exposed during the attack. Good for you Hamza. I sure hope school’s not too difficult for you in Findlay Ohio?

The guy to the right in the blue shirt turns up often in several pictures from the race. I think he could possibly be the one in the far left standing with all the royalty in the park, next to the one with the gink arm that has been talked about before the arrests.

Aren’t the toy cars in the 47-49MHz range? That’s hardly line of sight like 1.2Ghz.
++++++++++++
If so, you are correct. No line of sight requirement. In any case the triggering mechanism would need an external antenna and a feed - through capable of holding the pressure. That can be done, of course, but you need to know what you are doing. Could be the plans they were following make provision for that.

Wouldn’t being inside a metal pressure cooker interfere with the radio signal?
+++++++++++
Yes. They would have needed to add an external antenna and a pressure proof feed through to utilize any sort of radio control.

With just a tight-fit hole for the wire, intertial containment would have been enough for the few milliseconds of the event.

Yes, but an external antenna, especially for the 6 to 8 meter band is simple to add.

I just pulled out my pressure cooker and a piece of 26 ga magnet wire (varnish insulation) and put it between the lid and the pot under the rubber gasket, and it sealed right up.

No short between the metal pot and wire. I put a meter on it to measure it.

I only took it to 30 PSI with the air compressor through the vent.

I should can some tamales while I've got the pressure cooker out, and get rid of the pork in the fridge.

.... Just a thought but with this new info isn’t it possible that the known perps then would have had to be the ones planting the devices on one side heading up the sidewalk. While at the same time because of the distance between the two incidents and considering the bombs detonated merely seconds apart, the short range of the remotes would dictate that there would have had to be two other people with remotes operating on the other side of the street/race course.

This entire property is a Darwin Test disguised as a science project. My grandsons love it. When they are allowed in under very, very close guard.

There are rules, and I've made it this far. I do use gauges, pressure relief valves, &ct...

I pity the grandchild that can't do his sums, though.

Not really. I've done QRP on 6 meters (50mw at 50.080Mhz) over 3 miles.

And one frequency can carry enough information to trigger two events at different times without one triggering the other.

BINGO!

...and there are more out there, with their pressure cookers.

Be safe, everyone...profile Muslims, especially young Saudi “students.”

...On a crowded street with human obstacles shielding the signal?

The signal is about 7 meters long, or 21 ft. It's like a wave in the ocean. It bends around stuff. You'd have to get to 1.2GHz to get bodies blocking the signal.

The frequency a little lower than the old television channels, if they used a toy car for the radios.

I've been a ham radio operator for about 30 years longer than I've been a cook. ;)
