Former Rep. Todd Akin said he regrets the comments he made about legitimate rape which derailed his Missouri bid for U.S. Senate last year.
In an interview with KDSK-TV on Thursday, the 65-year-old was asked whether he would take back the controversial comments. Of course I would, the former congressman replied. Ive relived them too many times. But that is not reality.

He has plenty of defenders to this day on FR. That’s what you apparently missed. In fact, my Magic 8 ball tells me we are about to see a whole bunch of defenders start screaming how Zero was worse and purists with principles killed the GOP.
I however am off to sleep after arguing with the Lib wing of FR for too long today already.
Todd Akin did more damage to the pro life movement then anyone I can think of. He set a grenade off in his own barraks. Then instead of being a patriot and stepping aside he and his grasping family hung in there to the ugly end. Now the scumbag say he might run again. ....no class.
Todd Akin does not fit in to the current Republican Party. A true Republican would have backed down, apologized, caved in, quit, done whatever the liberals, Karl Rove, and the Republican establishement demanded of him. He should have done what John Boehner would have done. He should have behaved like a sniveling coward, and then Republicans would have admired him. Yes Akin is butt stupid. The real intelligent people are the Missouri voters who flocked to the polls and voted for the wise and honest liberal Claire McCaskill instead. She is much better for America than an idiot like Todd Akin. No I am sorry, it is the American voter that is butt stupid, not Todd Akin. Sorry but not every area can produce a Ted Cruz. In some places the best we can do is a Todd Akin vs. a Claire McCaskill. And if our choice in those cases is going to be Claire McCaskill because the Republican is not close enough to perfection to suit us, then we get exactly what we deserve.
Too little too late. He was very selfish for staying in the race. I dislike him very much.
Aiken, I can’t adequately express in polite company exactly what I think of you, but it involves an anatomical impossibility.

Missouri could have had Sarah Palin’s endorsed candidate Sarah Steelman in the Senate today instead of Claire McCaskill. But the blindly ambitious and blind to reality Akin family put an end to that.
And, in my opinion, Steelman would have been “closer to perfection” than Akin.
But, unfortunately we’re arguing over spilled milk. I hope that at least we’ll learn for the future.
Ok maybe true, but again, who'se stupid here, Akin or Missouri voters?
With Jeb Bush on tap for 2016, all the oh-so-sophisticates in the GOP can be assured, their candidate will have cloyingly empty answers to every question.
But at least no one will laugh at them!

Akin was stupid (and still is if he thinks he, or his son, has a prayer [pun intended] in electoral politics).
Missouri voters were low information voters needing to be “educated”. No amount of “education” or effort can overcome the injuries caused by idiots such as Akin.

Among evangelicals, Akin got 56% vs 35% for McCaskill. Romney got 76% of their votes vs 22% for Obama.
Among those who believe abortion should be illegal in all cases, it was Akin 65% vs McCaskill at 27%. Romney got 79% of their votes vs Obama at 20%.

Romney had more people willing to get on their knees?
Why were more evangelicals and abortion foes in MO willing to get on their knees for Romney?
Because most “conservatives” are rather cowardly to begin with.
Consider us done, boy.
The reality is that he didn’t really mean that any rape is legitimate. But no adjective before rape would have been safe. He should have steered clear of the subject.
You trashed the moderates in post #21, and now you're trashing "conservatives". I'm sure you don't have a kind word for liberals or libertarian leaning GOPers, either. That pretty much covers everybody.
Consider us done, boy.
OK.
Frankly, those who think he and Murdock blew it were right...they should have had better answers in their stock.
I keep imagining what if Sharon Angle, Akin, and Murdock had won their states.
No Harry Reid. No McCaskstupid...
Republicans are fatuous cowards.
