On Thursday, at a breakfast gathering sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and John McCain (R-AZ) agreed that Congress is not done with gun control, that there is a good possibility that legislation calling for tougher gun laws comes up for another vote in 2013.
This announcement, of course, comes a little over a week after the a bipartisan bill that would have expanded background checks to gun purchases made over the Internet and at gun shows failed to garner the 60 votes it need to overcome a Republican-led filibuster.
I think were going to bring this bill back before the end of the year and I think you may find some changes, said Schumer, who pioneered the universal background check effort for the Democrats.
Lots of senators who thought it was safe to vote against it he added, are not so sure any more because of changing attitudes.
Schumer is one of many pro-gun control lawmakers who believe that pressure being put on those who voted against the measure by advocacy groups like Americans for Responsible Solutions, the political action committee created by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly, is having an effect.
Gun control, Schumer argued, was also beginning to gain real traction with the masses, I think were at a turning point I think the numbers are getting a little more intense.
After make his way around several conservative leaning parts of the Empire State, Schumer claimed to have support for an expanded background check measure from new voices, I heard from people who said Keep at it, and I never heard from those folks before.

>>When they come to attack us in our homes, we wont be there; well be at their homes.<<
I think their bosses homes would make a better target.
>>Theyre not stupid. All they lack is control of the House, and just one more mass shooting tragedy during 2013. They will fabricate a tragedy, if need be. It’s so close, they can taste it. Theyve already got the Senate and the White House. They already have the MSM in their pocket. Banks are now falling in line, and refusing to provide financial services to gun shops and distributors. In the weeks ahead, the IRS and ATF will start tying them up with “audits” and inspections. Given what we all know surrounding this issue, and the feds arming up like never before, why would the Dems continue on this line of march? Because its for all the marbles. The only thing standing in their way is an armed citizenry. <<
So what if they do pass a law banning all firearms. Are you going to surrender yours?
I hope Americans will comply with an unconstitutional gun ban just like we complied when the feds told us to convert to metric in the 1960s. I hope Americans will comply just like we did when they set a 55 mph speed limit nationwide in the gas "crisis" of the 1970s and 1980s. I hope Americans will comply just like we did when Prohibition became federal law in the 1920s. I hope Americans will comply just like we did with drug laws. I hope Americans will comply just like we did on the requirement to report out of state and Internet purchases and pay state sales taxes on those purchases.
There is a substantial precedent on what to expect, and I expect the national compliance rate to be at worst in the twenties, certainly well below 50%. The real question is how many will see such an encroachment on our God-given human rights as an immediate threat. I hope we will be able to stop or repeal any more gun laws before it reaches that level. With an anti-American bigot who obviously wants unlimited personal power in our White House, I'm not optimistic, but I still hope we will be able to avoid that particular crisis.

Firearms? What firearms?
I believe they think they can mobilize the low information voters as they did for Obama's election.
I think they are wrong. The Second Amendment and the Constitution are far more popular than Romney ever was, even among a fair number of low information voters.
I think they are deluding themselves. They are good at that.
