At least one Boston mosque attended by the Tsarnaev family has refused to provide funeral services for the killed Boston bombing suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, his aunt said on Wednesday.
The aunt, Patimat Suleimanova, didn’t know the name of the mosque, NBC reported. But she said one of Tsarnaev’s uncles had approached the mosque for services and was flatly denied

I have no idea what the rules are concerning Islamic burial, but if it’s anything like Judaism (which would not surprise me, considering how much Islam superficially ripped off of Judaism - e.g., Halal/Kashrut, etc.), the rule is generally as soon as possible. Next day, if possible, but in situations where the body can’t be recovered (here, because it’s held by the authorities), as soon as possible after it can be recovered.
Point being, I don’t think they’re refusing to do this because it’s too late. It’s more likely a PR move (and there are probably also “moderate” “Muslim” members of the mosque who would flip out if they allowed it).
