Do We Really Need Huge Numbers Of Foreign Workers?
Center For Immigration Studies ^ | 15 April 2013 | David North,

While it is well known that the high-tech industries often prefer lower-paid, young, and docile foreign workers to hiring Americans, and while these employers keep screaming about "labor shortages", some of the real labor market numbers on the subject have not been discussed much lately.

Based on BLS, NSF, and DoE Data:

Projected USA STEM job openings 2010-2020: 2.5 million

Projected USA STEM degrees earned: 3.9 million

That is a SURPLUS of 1.4 million STEM degrees!

Based on Current Population Survey data (Census Bureau):

"Average wages in the computer and mathematical occupations for workers with at least a bachelor's degree barely moved from 2000 to 2011."

Expressed in 2012 dollars.....

2000 average wage: $37.27

2011 average wage: $39.24

That's LESS than the rate of inflation!

AMNESTY TWO ISSUES NEVER TOUCHED

ACTIVE FR’S IF YOU SEE ANY CREDITABLE REPORTS OF PROBLEMS AMERICAN CITIZENS ARE HAVING WHILE LIVING IN MEXICO PLEASE POST THEM.....

(1) When is the treatment of American citizens in Mexico and their rights vs US treatment of Mexicans going to be an issue when we discuss amnesty ?

This is a question: Should Mexican citizens when in the US be given the same rights American citizens are given while in Mexico? This has yet to appear on any US legislator’s questionaire from either chamber....ASK YOUR FEDERAL LEGISLATORS WHY IT HASN’T

(2) What makes it necessary for US to subjugate our sovereignty because of available cheap labor ? While the Godless Demo-Coms socialists encourage population control and abortion . Then complain the US is not reproducing enough citizens to replace its aging retiring workforce. But rely on (as the Romans did) on foreigners (barbarians) .to keep their welfare ponzie schemes supplied with tax money and keep the system working..

Ever hear of reciprocal aggrements ? These are arranged to protect the rights of American citizens working or living in other countries.

Why is it when it comes to citizens of other countries we are required to offer them the same privledges as we do to US citizens? But when it comes to US citizens who get in trouble or attempt to do business in other countries they do not get the same treatment their citizens get.

Americans can’t own coast land in Mexico. And get no title to it elsewhere. If they run out of cash they’ll get unceremoniously sent back or put in jail untill some relative comes up with the “fresh”. That’s just for starters as for granting them voting privledges yea let’s give Mexican citizens that right when American citizens vote in their elections .

If Americans were not paid to sit on their butts and NOT work...

If our schools and Universities actually taught usable skills instead of useless drivel and social/political indoctrination into Marxism...

Then we could at least turn the tap way to a tiny dribble.

But - since we “educate” our young people to do nothing and to not work... I don’t see a way around the open floodgates of foreign workers (from menial jobs to the technical).

How many of those STEM degree earners are foreigners? They would take up the H1-B visas to work in the US.

Go to any US school and take a look at their STEM classes: 75-95% are Indians and Chinese. Take a look at some of the engineering research publications post-1995. Almost all of them are authored / contributed by people with Chinese or Indian names.

Imagine a 100,000 muslim jihadi H-1B visas working in power plants, fertilizer factories, refineries, chemical manufacturers, hospitals, utilities, dams, pharmaceutical formulators, web hub server farms, municipal water supplies, sewage treatment...

I can not understand why you are so concerned about the treatment of Americans who want to live in Mexico, since apparently you are not one of them. These idiots go there voluntarily for some stupid reason. They should expect to be subjected to the laws, and lawbreaking of the country.

Any guidance to help me understand why this interests you?

I am more disturbed by the treatment of United States citizens within the borders of the United States by the Mexicans who occupy our country illegally.

Nope, this is just Big-Business trying to keep the costs down for professional labor.

Having a front row seat to what Microsoft is doing in Seattle is pretty disgusting. They’re bringing Indians in by the hundreds but carefully housing them miles away from the MS Campus so the folks in Redmond and Bellevue don’t get an accurate view of what’s going on.

North Belltown, in downtown Seattle, is one of their Indian cache locations. And this neighborhood’s turning into Little India. It’s bizarre to be in the middle of.

Coincidentally, this cycle of MS products is, hands-down, their worst - including Sharepoint Server 2013 taking the crown as being the lousiest piece of software I’ve ever seen. Literally. The previous holder of that crown was the first release of MS Dynamics CRM and I think I had it as the crown-holder for 5 or 6 years.

The only current product they have that I consider deployable on my network is Server 2012. Everything else is “Hold - Pending Next Service Pack.” And that includes Office 2013/365 which is just $#@%@.

Umm, you are not paying attention. Did you read the article? To quote:

Comparison of Projected BLS Job Openings Data, 2010-2020, with a Projection of NSF and DoE Data in the Same Time Period on Degrees Earned byCitizens and Green Card Holders in the STEM Fields (Architecture and Social Sciences Excluded)

Projected STEM job openings over 10 years: 2,537,000

Projected STEM earned degrees by citizens and green card holders over 10 years:

Associate's: 440,000
Bachelor's: 2,652,000
Master's: 569,000
PhDs: 258,000

Total: 3,919,000

Ratio of projected degrees to projected job openings: 1.55

Which means that a shortage in the supply of labor should raise the price to reach the equilibrium (or market-clearing) wage, all other things equal. Asking for a lower price while claiming a non-existent shortage in this case does not make economic sense.

A surplus on the other hand, would cause the price to lower. Addressing it as a shortage(for example, through immigration law intervention) only serves to enhance the effects of a surplus. One can say that a labor shortage exists all day long, but the shortage has to exist for that to be true.
