(KABUL, Afghanistan) Officials say a helicopter owned by an Afghan company has made an emergency landing in a Taliban-controlled area of eastern Afghanistan, and the insurgents took all nine people who were aboard hostage.
A district administrator in the area says the helicopter landed on Sunday afternoon in strong winds and rain in a village of Logar province, southeast of Kabul and about 30 kilometers (or 20 miles) from the Pakistan border.

We really need to create our own version of the “Russian Hammer” if we ever expect to get any respect from these filthy jihadists.
Something needs to be done.
We are all into winning hearts and minds.....
To this day we are paying for our mistakes and we have not learned anything. We support the Jihadist in Libya, Egypt, Syria and even Iraq. We really need to learn from the Russians, Chinese, and Filipinos in that the only way to deal with these radical muzzies is to kill them. The only thing these muzzies respect is power.
The French and British knew this 200 years ago and we knew this during the Barbary wars.
Taliban...That can’t be....Usama is dead. There are no more terrorists.
We’ve now done the same thing in Egypt and we’re doing it in Syria. Less weapons aka funds mean less fighting. Both sides are bad guys....what to do??
Yep, that sure worked out well! Seriously that was HUGE blunder in hindsite...
BBC now saying two of those abducted are actually Russians, the rest Turkish.

Be interesting to see the reaction from Moscow on that one, if true.....
The reply will probably involve disembodied body parts ...
I think the Russians are barbaric ... we, OTOH, are entirely too 'civilized'.
Would you rather have the SOVIET UNION still in Afghanistan and eastern Europe?
We got maximum damage and out of it and our guy, Masoud, was assassinated by the Taliban on 9/9 after a long civil war. If we made a mistake, it was not taking an active interest in who won that civil war.
There were a lot of events between the Russian exit and 9/11 which you can’t ignore, including Clinton letting Bin Laden slip out of Africa to Afghanistan after the 1998 embassy bombings, where things could have been different.
Yes because you can deal with Soviets. They may be evil but they are sane. You can’t with Muslims.
well looking back at it, sure seems pretty stupid to me, trying to look at the facts without politcal prejuduce is the key. I believe the SU was doomed to fail anyways, The system is simply unworkable, but oh what havoc was wrought because of the muzzies...
it sickens me to think of all the damn fine soldiers we lost in Afgahnistan, and all for nothing!! what a true waste... its still the same worthless place it always was... and not a damn thing was gained..
>I believe the SU was doomed to fail anyways.
Also selective hindsight. You can’t ever make decisions based on hindsight, unfortunately.
If there is a “Taliban-controled area of Afghanistan”, why aren’t we actively bombing it?
Oh boy. Prayers for these guys safe return.
!0 years into this war, and we still don’t control every damned inch of the place? Patton, Abrams, Ridgeway, Lemay, and every WWII USMC General would be disgusted.
Disgusting failure. We should leave immediately if we are this pussified. (at the top)
The Neo-Soviets and Chicoms are dangerous, but sane.
The Iranians (and their Hezbollah/Hamas puppets) are not right in the head, but can still be talked with. They are still dangerous, but will not attack the US unless they are going to go to war with us or Israel. Same for North Korea.
Al Qaeda, on the other hand, is totally crazy and will attack anybody, even fellow terrorist groups and rival AQ cells!
